What Kansas City have been doing this offseason shows that they’re not messing around. More than ever, 2024 is going to be the year they can make NFL history.
Although they have said goodbye to some figures who will be missed in the squad, the Kansas City Chiefs have acquired veterans who can help a lot in their quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl.
Marquise Holylwood Brown is the most eye-catching name among the new pieces. Matt Araiza, Irv Smith and Carson Wentz have all come on board – the franchise has even innovated and signed a player from the Welsh rugby league, Louis Rees-Zammit.
Some AFC teams in general have been doing a good job in free agency and are strengthening to increase their competitiveness in the conference. The Houston Texans, New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars could all spring surprises this season. Some analysts are even saying that the Chiefs should feel threatened by the changes we’ll see.

The return of a coach that has left a legacy in the NFL
At the end of January, the NFL welcomed back head coach Jim Harbaugh from college football.
He came to take over the Los Angeles Chargers after the departure of Brandon Staley, who was the Chargers’ head coach during the 2021 season and part of the 2022 season.
Harbaugh led the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012. That year, the Niners won the NFC Championship Game and made it to Super Bowl XLVII, where they faced the Baltimore Ravens. However, the 49ers ended up losing to the Ravens 34-31.
Despite the loss, Harbaugh’s tenure as coach of the 49ers was highly praised, as he turned the team into one of the most competitive in the league during his four seasons in charge.
Now, he returns to the professional league to run the Chargers, who are in a difficult situation. They lost their two main wide receivers, Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, as well as their No.1 running back, Austin Ekeler. Justin Herbert still have to wait for the Draft to find out his targets for 2024.
Why are the Chargers related to Kansas City
It seems that all expectations for LA are placed on Harbaugh and his expertise.
On the latest edition of the Up & Adams show, Kay Adams was joined by former NFL player Donte Whitner. He faithfully believes that the Chargers will raise their game and achieve great things with their new HC.
“The Chiefs don’t know what to expect from coach Harbaugh and his offensive philosophy and his defensive philosophy. And I remember thinking back to the 49er teams, nobody expected much from Crabtree after his first couple of years before Harbaugh got there.”
“Then we add Ted Ginn Jr. who was a journeyman speedster. We had a bunch of receivers and pretty much no name tight ends other than Vernon Davis. And then we acquired Randy Moss, that nobody ever heard of – it was the philosophy. It’s the run game, it’s the system with the RPOS (run-pass option) and the toughness that the players exude each and every week. So, yeah, look out for Coach Harbaugh this year.”
Against Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs, Herbert has a losing record of 2-5. It’s hard to imagine the LA team as a possible challenge to KC, since no-one knows which young players will be arriving in the squad in the next few months.
