Andy Reid is one of the best NFL head coaches in history but endured his share of struggles before his stellar tenure at the Kansas City Chiefs.
In May, the Kansas City Chiefs extended their legendary head coach after their third Super Bowl victory in five years.
The new contract will see him coach through to the 2029 season and make him the highest-paid head coach in the NFL.
Andy Reid could have retired but shut down talks as he signed a record-breaking extension
After their victory at Super Bowl LVIII, reports had swirled around the NFL that Andy Reid could consider retirement.
However, he shut down those suggestions signing a lengthy extension alongside other key executives, General Manager Brett Veach and Team President Mark Donovan.
The head coach dubbed ‘Big Red’ has been the captain and underlying foundation of the franchise’s dramatic turnaround.

Reid was set on becoming the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in 2013 but Clark Hunt intercepted him at the airport and managed to convince him to take charge of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Former head coach Romeo Crennel had been fired and left the team with a dreadful 2-14 record.
Reid took charge and the rest is history with his three rings in Missouri but postseason success was hard to come by in his previous job.
Reid struggled at the Philadelphia Eagles to win a ring, with 4 NFC Championship defeats on his CV
Big Red struggled to get over the hump as the Philadelphia Eagles head coach, losing Super Bowl XXXIX to the illustrious New England Patriots, suffering defeat in four NFC Championship games, two NFC Divisional games, and another two Wildcard round losses.
Despite reaching the postseason nine times in his 14-year Eagles reign, Reid never managed to earn a precious ring which he has for fun in Kansas City.
So, what is one of the reasons why he has found playoff success with the Chiefs but was left heartbroken countless times in Philadelphia?
Reid’s first-ever pick for the Eagles spoke about the key factor that has got him over the hump
On the Up&Adams Show, his former first-round pick, quarterback Donovan McNabb spoke about the key reason between him and Patrick Mahomes.
“You just brought up something that not many people talk about, when Andy drafted Patrick Mahomes, Patrick was more of a gun-slinger,” the former player explained.
“I wasn’t a gun-slinger and he (Reid) brought that down to the point where he trusted more of his (Mahomes’) check-downs and obviously him and Travis have a great chemistry.”
McNabb suggests Mahomes has the improvisation that he lacked in the later stages of the postseason
McNabb implies that Mahomes has the ability to make game-changing plays when the primary scheme has failed.
Mahomes can improvise with check-downs and use his feet to scramble out of situations to earn positive yardage.
Reid has developed that trust with the three-time Super Bowl MVP which is what makes their chemistry so special.
McNabb was a dual-threat QB but hinted that he did not have the ability Mahomes does in those imperative moments.
Therefore, Reid was not as successful in the closing stages of the postseason with McNabb but can get over the hump with Mahomes.
