The Buffalo Bills made the most outrageous decision of the 2024 offseason when they traded the team’s leading wide receiver.
Although Stefon Diggs hasn’t been outstanding in recent seasons, he was the piece that still provided a little confidence in the receiving unit. Diggs’ move to the Houston Texans left the Bills completely depleted in terms of the WR depth chart.
Once Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes became the big stars of their squads, the rivalry between Buffalo and the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off.
Still, in the matchup between the two AFC franchises, the advantage remains with KC by a record of 4-3. When it comes to the playoffs, Mahomes dominates having secured three big wins since 2021.

Why didn’t Diggs sign with the Chiefs?
It seems that when Diggs knew he could pursue a trade, he could have chosen any team but Kansas City.
In any case, the receiver would also be very expensive and the Chiefs wouldn’t be able to afford the cost of his contract.
Let’s be honest: Diggs catching throws from Mahomes would be every fan’s dream, but for the other 31 franchises it would be too appealing.

The decision that led to Stefon Diggs’ exit
It’s not known for sure if the WR asked to be traded or if the Bills wanted to break ties with him. Either way, it was a major blow for Buffalo.
Some of the reasons that may have motivated Diggs’ departure:
- Disgruntled: for at least two seasons, the player has seemed annoyed and the relationship with Allen may have been strained.
- Contract: the trade frees up about $4 million for this year and, according to Sportrac, gives a nice $27.3 million upside in 2025.
- Performance: despite getting off to a good start in 2023, there was a change of offensive coordinator, who was sacked and replaced by the quaterbacks coach. Diggs must not have adjusted to the change.
Former Eagles DeSean Jackson, during the Up & Adams show released this past Thursday, expressed his views on another possibility of Diggs wanting to leave the Bills.
“It’s not just him not being a football player or being able to get the statistics- it’s something deeper, and I can’t sit here and tell you ‘I know’, but I just know as far as quarterback, receiver, I wouldn’t say they weren’t eye to eye, but it was just more of him wanting to win.”
“I think, you know what I’m saying in there and I don’t feel like he thought they was gonna be able to beat the Chiefs.”
“The AFC conference is the Chiefs and I feel like I think he would rather go with a young quarterback and a new team that’s thriving instead of staying with the Bills where they, every year, get beat by the Chiefs.”
Over nine years in the NFL, the WR has a record of 150 games, 879 receptions for 10,904 yards and 71 touchdowns.
Now that he will be joining the Texans, who are arming themselves with many good pieces for C.J Stroud, expectations have been raised.
