Cowboys rookie kicker Brandon Aubrey has set the NFL record for most consecutive field goals made to start an NFL career.
Sunday’s matchup with the Eagles was a huge opportunity for the Cowboys to assert themselves among the Super Bowl favorites.
The Cowboys had come unstuck in pretty ugly fashion against the 49ers in Week 5, and this was the chance to prove they’d turned a corner. While there were a lot of positives – such as Dak Prescott, who had a huge game – but it was not enough to overcome the Eagles who won 28-23.

Cowboys kicker sets new NFL record
One of the few silver linings from the game was the Cowboys rookie kicker Brandon Aubrey set an NFL record.
Aubrey set a new NFL record for consecutive field goals made (19) to start an NFL career, which he set with a 51-yarder against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Aubrey is now just the first kicker in league history to start his career 19-for-19 on field goals. He’s 8-for-8 from 20-29 yards, 6-for-6 from 30-39, 1-1 from 40-49 and 4-for-4 from 50-59.
Against the Rams last week, he tied Cleveland Browns kicker Travis Coons’ 2015 record for consecutive makes to start a career with 18.
It comes after Aubrey was named NFC Player of the Week award for special teams last week. It was the first time since Brett Maher in 2019 that a Cowboys kicker won the award.

His incredible journey to the NFL
Aubrey spent his college years playing soccer at Notre Dame as a defender, and was eventually a first-round draft selection to Major League Soccer in 2017 after he was picked by Toronto FC.
After being released from the Bethlehem Steel FC in 2018, Aubrey decided to use the degree he got at Notre Dame to become a software engineer. However, he continued to work with former Mississippi State kicker and kicking coach Brain Egan and was drafted as a placekicker by the Birmingham Stallions in the 2022 USFL draft.
He became the USFL’s top kicker for its best team and was eventually brought to the Cowboys training camp. After competing with Tristan Vizcaino, he became the team’s next kicker.
He’s been virtually faultless ever since, leading his his nickname ‘Butter’, coined by QB Dak Prescott.
“He is butter,” Dak said of Aubrey.
“Butter Aubrey. Smooth, always has been since the day he showed up. I am a big fan of his game.”
We all are.
