Cowboys O-line likely to be missing key piece against the Eagles

Despite initial optimism, Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith is likely to be missing from Dallas’ offensive line against the Eagles.

The Cowboys take on the Eagles in Philly this weekend. By the end of Sunday, we’ll have a better picture of whether this team are Super Bowl pretenders or Super Bowl contenders.

Dallas will need all their weapons if they’re to beat their NFC East rivals, who, at 7-1, have the best record in the NFL.

Cowboys O-line likely to be missing Tyron Smith against the Rams

However, frustratingly, it looks like the offensive line will be without Tyron Smith once again after he did not practice Wednesday due to a neck injury.

The left tackle worked with the rehab group instead but reportedly has a chance to join the padded practice on Thursday.

There was optimism he could feature against the Rams last week, but he didn’t. Smith missed 14 games in 2020 after undergoing neck surgery and also has lost games in recent years to ankle, hamstring and knee issues.

The team has had their starting offensive line – Smith, Tyler Smith, Tyler Biadasz, Zack Martin and Terence Steele – in just two games this season. Tyron Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro, has started 152 games with the Cowboys since 2011.

Chuma Edoga also sustained an injury recently

Offensive tackle Chuma Edoga, who started for Smith vs the Rams before being injured himself, was also limited in Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury. He left Sunday’s win on a cart after sustaining an injury to his right leg in the fourth quarter.

Receiver Michael Gallup (illness) and safety Jayron Kearse (toe) also missed practice with injuries.

However, the Cowboys did add Canadian lineman Dakoda Shepley to their practice squad. Shepley had a stint with the Cowboys in 2022 but was released just before the start of the postseason with the intention of re-signing him to the practice squad.

The Colts ultimately signed him but released him in mid-October.

The move comes after Dallas recently released tight end Eric Saubert and guard Chris Glaser from their practice squad.
