Chris Simms pokes holes in the Dallas Cowboys 2023 season and labels it ‘misleading’

America’s Team has been one of the most consistent regular-season franchises in the past three years but has crumbled in the face of adversity on multiple occasions.

The Dallas Cowboys entered the playoffs in 2023 as the NFL leaders in points per game (30.1ppg).

In addition, they had won 12 games in the regular season, for the third consecutive year, but were still handed a beating in the Wildcard round.

The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Packers after producing an immaculate home record

The Green Bay Packers, with the youngest team in the league, won comfortably 48-32.

Only a garbage time points flurry by the Dallas Cowboys made the score seem closer than it was.

The Cowboys were the only team in 2023 to produce a perfect home record at AT&T Stadium going 8-0.

Their culture has been questioned off the field and analysts have asked if they have the winning mentality to break the curse.

Chris Simms believes the Cowboys ‘feasted on the poor’ to produce a misleading season

Former quarterback and Pro Football Talk host Chris Simms believes their 2023 season was misleading.

“Top five this, top five that, I think they (Cowboys) were very fortunate with the way the schedule worked out. I think they feasted on the poor,” Simms said via NFL on NBC.

“The NFC East was not nearly as good. They got to play the AFC East… New England and the Jets were a disaster. Miami was their cup of tea… they lost that. They got their a** blown out by the Buffalo late in the season.”

“So that’s where I do think they are a little misleading. They feasted on the poor and weren’t so good against the rich last year.”

Simms believes that the Cowboys profited off teams that they were scheduled to face in 2023.

The NFC East failed to produce the same dominance it had in 2022

Furthermore, the NFC East lacked in firepower after the Philadelphia Eagles finished 11-8, three losses down from their previous record.

Moreover, the New York Giants managed to miss out on the playoffs with a poor 6-11 showing.

Then the Washington Commanders fell to the bottom of the pile once more after tallying just four victories in 2023.

However, both the Eagles and Cowboys fell victim to the opening round of the postseason after a 1-2 NFC East finish.

Simms points out the Cowboys crumbled against two AFC contenders

As Simms points out, America’s Team failed to beat the top two franchises in the AFC East.

They found themselves on the wrong side of a 22-20 scoreline in Florida but could have no complaints after being dismantled by the Bills in New York 31-10.

In 2024, the franchise will be matched up against one of the toughest divisions in football, the AFC North.

Fortunately, they are scheduled to play the poorest division in the National Football Conference, the NFC South.
