The Kansas City Chiefs are just one mandatory minicamp training session away from the summer break and defensive end Chris Jones has suggested a timetable for retirement.

Today is the conclusion of the Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason program which has seen a mix of rookies and veterans knuckling down before their preseason endeavors.

All players have been required to attend under the collective bargaining agreement or they would be subject to small-scale fines.

Over the offseason, Chiefs Kingdom has seen various players converse with the media about how the team is adapting and preparing for a decisive 2024 season.

Furthermore, the defensive tackle spoke about Travis Kelce’s future retirement prospects.

After the first day of mandatory minicamp, Kelce was questioned about his future plans outside of football and how soon they could arrive.

The legendary tight end acknowledged that opportunities are presenting themselves but all his focus has shifted to the 2024 season.

Moreover, the nine-time Pro Bowler spoke and was adamant that his workload should not be shifted and that he wants the ‘wear and tear’ football brings.

In the offseason, his brother Jason Kelce, ex-center for the Philadelphia Eagles, closed the door on football and has pursued a career in punditry.

Chris Jones put pen to paper on a new six-year deal worth $158.75 making him the highest-paid defensive tackle in March 2024.

Chris Jones provided his hopeful timescale for his retirement and Kelce’s

When speaking to the media, Chris Jones stated: “Trav (Kelce), he’s got four or five more years. What is he even talking about retirement for?

“We can let TK go, if we retire, we gotta retire together. Give me like at least six more years, then we’ll talk about it.”

Jones hints that Kelce will not be retiring before him but with the former being five years his younger, it will take some convincing.

The new deal Jones signed in the offseason will likely see him retire as a Chief unless there is a drastic change of events.

Both players signed record deals to make them the most expensive in their position

In addition, Kelce has two years remaining on his current deal, with the Chiefs giving him an exclusive pay rise to make him the highest-paid tight end in football.

Ultimately, the seven-time All-Pro has stated that he will be playing until the ‘wheels fall off’ and has claimed he would be satisfied with six or seven rings.

If he keeps true to his word, then Kelce may need an extension at the conclusion of his remaining two years.
