Chiefs Kingdom can start to get excited about their potential history-making 2024 season, but Xavier Worthy has been dealing with an early setback to his Chiefs career.

Yesterday, the Kansas City Chiefs concluded their three-day voluntary workout program, which is the first of two in May.

Rookies, drafted and undrafted, have taken to the field to get their first preseason reps under the belt in a professional capacity.

After the NFL schedules were released last week, fans are finally getting a taste of the upcoming season.

Kansas City Chiefs start crucial offseason preparations for a grueling opener in 2024

Kansas City can leave no stone unturned in their preseason preparations as they must be in the best position to face the AFC threats of the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals in successive opening weeks.

Most importantly, their rookies need vital reps in what is a short period of transition from college to the big world of the NFL.

Despite still being classified as ‘offseason’ preparations, the OTAs are the groundwork that the rookies can lay down before the mandatory minicamp in June.

Moreover, the rookies are desperate to make an impression on the coaches and settle down into their new lives.

Rookies will face off against one another as they compete for a potential space on the Chiefs’ 53-man roster.

However, one of their most exciting rookies was forced to be an observer during the recent OTAs.

Xavier Worthy dealt a potential worrying blow in his first OTA session

The fastest man in NFL Combine history Xavier Worthy was forced to man the sidelines due to a hamstring injury.

On the second day of the OTAs, Worthy tweaked his hamstring and missed the remainder of the practice. Then he was not fit to participate on the final day.

Patrick Mahomes’ new weapon Marquise Brown was caught on tape catching passes and recorded a magnificent one-handed grab in a 7-on-7 drill.

Worthy will be frustrated that he was unable to compete for valuable reps and develop his chemistry with Mahomes.

Furthermore, hamstring troubles are not a pleasing sign for a receiver who relies on his speed and explosivity off the line.

Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes want to get the best out of an ‘intelligent’ Worthy

In addition, the Chiefs took Worthy with the first pick of the 2024 NFL Draft and will want him to have the best preparation for the new season.

Mahomes commented on the injury during his OTA interview with the media.

“You can tell how intelligent he is. He’s asking the right questions. Before the hamstring injury he was getting the work in. . . just being precautionary, he could probably get back out there right now if he really wanted to,” the signal-caller told the Chiefs media team.
