Chiefs must be worried about one divisional rival, the reason stretches back 21 seasons

The Kansas City Chiefs are locked in on becoming the first teams to win three Super Bowls in a row, but they must take care of business within their division first.

Three rings in a row have never been done before in the Super Bowl era, despite being attempted eight times.

Of those eight attempts, no team has returned to the grand stage in the all-or-nothing season.

Therefore, history tells us the odds are overwhelmingly stacked against Kansas City before taking to the field.

Chiefs face the field as Mahomes is described as ‘public enemy number one’

In addition, being the back-to-back champions means there is a target on their head and all teams will be gunning to beat them.

Furthermore, Myles Simmons has stated that Patrick Mahomes is ‘public enemy number one’ heading into the 2024 season. Per the NFL expert, fans are tired of the constant success pouring the Chiefs’ way.

The Chiefs have qualified for the playoffs every year with the holy trinity of Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, and Mahomes.

However, despite them comfortably being favorites to do so again, they must be wary of their division.

Despite their reign of dominance, the Chiefs must be wary about threats in the AFC West

The Chiefs have sat at the top spot of the AFC West since 2015, with the Denver Broncos being the last team in 2014 to deny them.

Nonetheless, Kansas City will be cautious about the growing threat the Las Vegas Raiders posed last year.

They stunned Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas Day sacking Mahomes four times and registering an interception.

A defensive masterclass by the Raiders saw them leave smoking cigars celebrating a 20-14 victory.

Nonetheless, the L.A. Chargers may pose the biggest threat to the Chiefs’ throne after their addition of Jim Harbaugh.

James Palmer shares one statistic that will give the L.A. Chargers hope

Additionally, there is one stat that the Chiefs must be worried about for the upcoming 2024 season.

NFL analyst James Palmer, posted on X, that in the last 19 of 21 seasons, one team that has finished bottom has gone on to place first within their division the following year.

As a result, the Chiefs have every right to be worried about the growing threat of the L.A. Chargers who finished bottom of the AFC West last year.

The two rival franchises are set to meet in Week 4 when the Chiefs travel to California and meet at the tail end of the season in Week 14.

In our 2024 season prediction, we have the Chargers winning their first meeting but the Chiefs bounce back at home.
