The Chiefs let the trade deadline come and go without making a move, as Chiefs GM Brett makes it clear he’s riding with his current group.
The NFL trade deadline has passed and with it the Kansas City Chiefs’ chances of adding a wide receiver to their group.
Much has been made about the Chiefs’ issues at wideout, and while there wasn’t a ton of buzz around any last minute trades it’s still somewhat surprising they elected to sit on their hands and let the deadline come and go.

Chiefs fail to trade for wide receiver as GM makes it clear he’s riding with current group
Chiefs GM Brett Veach’s decision to stand pat on the wide receiver position is as clear an indication as any that he is happy with the current crop of wideouts.
The team has already invested a lot in its current room in terms of picks, with the likes of Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney and Rashee Rice all brought in to bolster the position.
Add to that Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Justyn Ross (who is now on the commissioner’s exempt list) and it’s clear Veach has tried to beef up his receiver group in recent years.
However, he’s had limited success; Kadarius Toney hasn’t live up to expectations, Valdes-Scantling hasn’t kicked on and Moore hasn’t shown much at all in the minutes he’s had.
Rice has looked good in patches but he’s still a rookie and has a lot to improve.
There also wasn’t a ton of quality options on the market either, unless Veach went all out for someone like DeAndre Hopkins, which he was never likely to do.
Ultimately, Veach made his bed at the wide receiver position this past offseason and unfortunately now has to sleep in it.

They did bring Mecole Hardman back recently
The Chiefs did, however, make a move for Mecole Hardman a few weeks back, meaning he is the only in-season trade in 2023. The wide receiver was acquired from the New York Jets in a swap of late-round draft picks after he failed to catch on in New York.
Hardman previously appeared in 57 regular-season games for the Chiefs, including 26 starts. During that span, he caught 151 passes for 2,088 yards and 16 touchdowns, along with 20 carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns. On special teams, he had 62 punt returns for 555 yards and a touchdown.
He was added to the team before they faced the LA Chargers in Week 7 and has had a mixed bag so far. He delivered a clutch 50-yard punt return in his first game back in Kansas City but had a costly muffed punt in the Week 8 loss to the Broncos.
Hopefully he can turn things around against the Dolphins on Sunday.
