Chiefs blow chance of play-off seed and one TV host blames Taylor Swift

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, the Chiefs’ offense reached a brand-new low on Christmas Day.

There was no magical holiday story for the reigning Super Bowl champions in their 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, in fact quite the contrary.

Outside of Patrick Mahomes, who nearly willed his team to victory, the Chiefs’ offense put forth a Charlie Brown-type Christmas performance at Arrowhead on Monday with a comedy of errors throughout the afternoon.

Their loss not only means they’ll have to wait another week for a chance to cinch the AFC West, but Kansas City is now officially out of contention for the #1 seed in the AFC.

There’s a lot to dissect after the Chiefs’ offense laid another egg on Christmas Day in what could be their worst outing of the season.

Is Swift to Blame?

Since the start of the season, the Kansas City Chiefs have only had high praise for Taylor Swift and her romance with tight end Travis Kelce.

Mahomes says she’s part of the team, Tony Gonzalez says it great for the league and even coach Andy Reid only has sunshine and rainbows to say about the music superstar.

Her presence didn’t seem to impact the team early on, but after what the offense showed against the Raiders, there’s clearly a problem.

Vegas didn’t complete a single pass after the opening quarter; the Chiefs had five negative offensive plays in the first half, while Mahomes lost to a rookie quarterback for the first time.

The Chiefs’ opening quarter was as bad as we’ve ever seen in the Mahomes era, with the offense putting up -18 yards, their lowest first quarter numbers since 2004.

TV personality Skip Bayless said what many might be thinking: that all the Taylor Swift coverage is negatively impacting this team offensively.

Kelce had another quiet outing with Swift looking on, making five catches for 44 yards on Monday.

All the attention on Chiefs and Swift is likely enabling the owners to prosper financially, but it doesn’t seem to be helping their chances of repeating as Super Bowl champions.

Tensions Boiling Over?

The Chiefs can tap dance around their offensive woes all they want, but the bottom line is something is wrong.

Andy Reid and Travis Kelce talking it out in the early stages of their Monday affair is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Chiefs have lost three of their last four games and don’t look nearly as potent as they did a season ago.

It’d be unfair to say it’s all on Taylor Swift, but besides Mahomes, the offense seems to have lost its focus and mojo and are running out of time to get it back.
