Arguably, the greatest tight end in NFL history is among those supporting the Chiefs newest celebrity fan and the man chasing his record.
On Sunday, Tony Gonzalez saw one of his NFL records broken by a man who will undoubtedly join him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day: Travis Kelce.
In their come-from-behind victory over the Las Vegas Raiders last weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs leading pass catcher this season became the fastest tight end in league history to reach 11,000 receiving yards, doing it in his 154th game.
Gonzalez, who played 12 seasons in Kansas City, held the previous mark, though it took him 191 games to reach that milestone.
The now retired Chiefs legend recently appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show, discussing Kelce’s achievements and the attention surrounding #87 and Taylor Swift.
Gonzalez on board with the Swifties
Earlier in November, Kelce set a new KC record for the most career receiving yards, besting Gonzalez in that department.
Clarkson asked Gonzalez on her Thursday show about Kelce breaking his NFL record, to which her other guest, Jennifer Garner, jokingly said, “Did you have to bring that up?”
The former American Idol winner clarified that she had seen Gonzalez’s previous post about Kelce breaking his franchise record for receiving yards.

The 47-year-old also says Taylor Swift’s impact on the NFL brand is something he fully supports.
“I think it’s great that Taylor’s done this for the NFL,” he said.
“She [Swift] brought a whole new audience, it’s been great,” Gonzalez continued.
Indeed, not only has the Chiefs’ name grown tremendously since converting Swift from the Eagles to KC, but also the league.
A whole new audience is tuning into football games or attending them since the Swift/Kelce thing started being publicized.
Gonzalez played a good portion of his NFL career when social media didn’t exist, but even now, he is getting recognized by youngsters, thanks to Swift.
On The Kelly Clarkson Show, he shared a funny story about an interaction with a 10-year-old girl at the airport recently.
“I was like, ‘Oh, how cool, I’m getting so popular that a 10-year-old girl [wants to talk to me],”
Gonzalez shared, laughing. “She goes, ‘Hi, Is your name Tony? Do you know Travis Kelce?”
What does Kelce have left to do?
While Kelce holds a couple more records that Gonzalez previously had, it will still take some doing to unseat the 47-year-old in other areas.
Gonzalez holds the NFL record for most receiving yards at 15,127 and career receptions for a tight end (1,325), both of which are well ahead of Kelce (11,076 and 884).
Kelce is nearing Gonzalez’s Chiefs record for most career receiving touchdowns, with the KC tight end on 74, two fewer than Tony.
The 916 career receptions by Gonzalez in Kansas City is a franchise record, though Kelce is closing in on it at 884.
