The Dallas Cowboys offense has many holes to fill and the running back position remains a high priority.

Jerry Jones refused to make any bold moves in the running back open market because of the pricing.

Therefore, he is trying to seek a cheaper option.

NFL draft prospect could be paired with Elliott

Ezekiel Elliott has been linked with a return to Dallas after hitting free agency.

This could be a viable option but due to the 28-year-old’s injury history, he could not be responsible for the main workload.

As a result, there is still strong talk of the Cowboys looking at the upcoming NFL Draft to find a gem.

Executive Stephen Jones has hinted they do have an interest in Johnathon Brooks.

The soon-to-be rookie out of the native Texas University tore his ACL and underwent surgery with the Cowboys’ medical team.

A close connection has been established and the injury has inevitably lowered his draft value.

However, there is another emerging talent out of college who could be America’s Team’s next running back.

Braelon Allen to Cowboys possible

On ESPN, the discussion was centered around the prominent Cowboys running game issue.

When speaking about potential draft prospects, Field Yates believed Brooks was a ‘classic Jerry Jones pick’.

Additionally, he believed Braelon Allen is a credible option: “Braelon Allen who is somehow 20 years of age, he came to Wisconsin a 17-year-old. [Allen] looked like a Greek god out there, the power was not on display as much as last season.”

Allen was able to rush for over 1,200 yards in both of his first two seasons in college football.

He only managed 984 rushing yards in 2023 but Yates said the offense strategically changed which hindered his output.

Cowboys focused to build O-line

Nonetheless, the 20-year-old looks set to fall to the second or third round in this year’s draft.

Cowboys look keen to use their earlier picks on valuable offensive linemen.

Then they could set their sights on a rookie rusher who could excel with a talented O-line in place.

Yates believes: “If he (Allen) goes to Dallas in the third round we could be saying ‘he’s gonna have a massive rookie of the year type offensive role in Dallas’.”

Could the Cowboys have a running back they could pair alongside Elliott?

A veteran and rookie pairing could make for a fruitful partnership.
