The Dallas Cowboys are seemingly uninterested in the free agency market and have turned their attention to the NFL Draft in April.
America’s Team was predicted to attack the open market and sign one of the many running backs available.
However, Jerry Jones did not pursue any targets courtesy of the overpriced market.
Cowboys set on drafting a running back
Valuable rushers like Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry who were linked to Dallas landed in different locations.
Barkley signed with the Cowboys’ NFC East rivals the Philadelphia Eagles.
Now the Cowboys are increasingly likely to target a running back in the upcoming draft.
Historically, the Cowboys front office has been excellent in targeting and securing dynamic rookie talent.
Just take the selections of CeeDee Lamb and Micha Parsons as some of the latest examples.
The Cowboys pride themselves on growing homemade talent and creating a sustainable operating franchise.
As a result, it seems the Cowboys have put all their eggs in one basket and are banking on recruiting their starting running back in late April.
The franchise will hope they can find their next Ezekiel Elliott but hope a fatal contract debacle does not come attached.

Jonathon Brooks is a prospect for Dallas
One of the running backs in this year’s draft is Jonathon Brooks out of Texas University.
The rusher has experienced a breakout year in 2023 after sitting behind NFL rushers Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson.
In 2023, he had rushed for 1,139 yards after 11 games but suffered a detrimental ACL injury in November.
Ironically, the Dallas Cowboys physician Dr. Dan Cooper performed the surgery to start his recovery journey.
Stephen Jones has stated this connection has been very useful: “It always helps when one of the doctors you’re very familiar with does the surgery. That’ll be very helpful.
‘He’s got a lot of skill sets’
He proceeded to state how they have kept a close eye on Brooks’ performances: “Obviously, he’s a guy we follow right in our backyard in Texas. He’s got a lot of skill sets.
“If it wasn’t for the injury, might would’ve ultimately been rated the best back in the draft.”
Brooks is on the road to recovery and thankfully his professional career seems to be intact, which Jones acknowledges: “Our understanding is that he has a great chance to be ready to not miss anything, start training camp, and go to work.”
Could there be a chance that the Cowboys select Brooks in the early round?
The 20-year-old’s injury will have affected his stock in the draft and will most likely fall to the later rounds.
This could leave the door open for the Cowboys to have faith in the potential new homegrown talent.
