It is no secret that the Dallas Cowboys are looking to extend Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons this offseason.
All three players are hunting new deals as they creep closer to the expiration of their current contracts.
Prescott is coming off a season worthy of finishing second in the MVP race.
Lamb finished the season with the most NFL receiving touchdowns and second in receiving yards.
Parsons is the heartbeat of the Cowboys’ defense and was in contention for Defensive Player of the Year.
All three players are draftee talent and have been nurtured in the confines of The Star in Frisco.
Stephen Jones understands the challenge
Stephen Jones, the son of owner Jerry Jones, has publicly spoken about the challenge of awarding new contracts and considering the cap hits.
In an interview, he explained: “It’s a great thing having the Micah, CeeDee and the Dak challenge ahead of us in terms of getting them under the cap; and we’re all in on getting that done.”
Ironically, Stephen mentions the ‘all in’ phrase which has had many fans perplexed.
Jones sees this problem as a good challenge as they want to keep their home-grown stars but accept there are limitations with the cap space.

‘Keep your home-grown star players’
The comments were dissected on the First Things First show and Nick Wright was complimentary of the way the Cowboys run the franchise.
The presenter exclaimed: “I think it’s weird because this is the Cowboys but this is how smart teams are run.
“You draft well and you keep your home-grown star players. You don’t splurge in free agency because usually, that is paying at the top of the market and also because you don’t have the money because you are paying your home-grown players.”
Wright backs the front office’s actions of not paying top-dollar in free agency: “The way they run the team is smart. They don’t have a lot of bad contracts. They draft really well.
“It was good for them to say ‘You know what, we are not going to pay top-dollar to keep Tony Pollard and we’re not going to go out there and sign an expensive running back.”
Wright believes there is a method to the madness.
Jerry Jones is keeping his pocket tight
Moreover, Jerry Jones is not splashing the cash foolishly and is keeping the money to pay their best players.
In addition, the Cowboys have historically been one of the best drafters in the NFL. So, they will have faith in identifying players who can have instant impacts.
Eric Kendricks remains the only outside free agent recruited and the Cowboys will have to find future additions from there.
