The Houston Texans are competing with the Dallas Cowboys in the battle for the best team in the state.
The crazy trade involving the Buffalo Bills and the Houston Texans caused a stir in the AFC because of the possible idea of C.J Stroud’s team being a threat to the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Now that Stefon Diggs has joined the Houston squad, the franchise is well strengthened for the season ahead.
For a team that put on a new face in 2023, this year’s offseason is showing that, in addition to reshaping the roster, they are incorporating a new mentality – and one with a hunger to win.
The franchise’s new acquisitions have put them on a historic level. According to CBS Sports Research, the Texans are the first NFL team to bring in, in the same offseason, a player coming off a year with more than 100 receptions (Diggs), one of more than 1000 rushing yards and another of over 10 sacks (Danielle Hunter and Denico Autry).
However, the hot topic in the news and sports talk is the NFC: who is the best team in Texas? Dallas Cowboys or Houston Texans?
Putting both teams in perspective
On the most recent edition of NBC Sports’ Dan Patrick Show, former NFL quarterback Sean Salisbury was invited by the host to share his insights on Diggs’ trade to Houston. But first, he had to answer which is the current best team in Texas.
“Oh, (the) Texans.”
“Quarterbacks are both good, C.J Stroud past that Prescott and I think as far as the guts, the ability to challenge down the field, I think now with Stefon Diggs, depending if the talent is bigger than the headache, because we know what he’s got and that’s gonna be a test, but the bandwidth of their offense and just having to fit in pregame lining up in your practice week…”
He named who Stroud will be able to rely on this season and also predicted good results for the defence with new players and the return of others:
“They got a better running back now with Joe Mixon because he’s so good out of the backfield. Tank Dell will be healthy, Nico Collins becoming number one and I like their defense better. All this talk and people are talking about Danielle Hunter, he’s in the team picture for top pass rushers in this league – dominant player.”
Salisbury made it clear that the mindset is an important part of why he thinks that, today, Houston is ranked higher than Dallas. And, of course, the coaching part also matters.
“The Texans are the better football team and I also think that they’re a more confident football team with right now a coach that commands more than what they’re doing in Dallas.”
