With the beginning of the offseason program, Kansas City’s wide receiver situation is still ongoing.
In late March, Rashee Rice was implicated in a multi-vehicle collision in Dallas. He was identified as the driver of the Lamborghini involved in the incident, which triggered a chain reaction involving four other vehicles, as per the police report.
The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver turned himself in to the Glenn Heights Police Department in Texas this past Thursday, per Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.
That said, Rice is now back with the Kansas City Chiefs, but remotely, via Zoom.

Chiefs’ head coach breaks the silence on the situation
There is still nothing certain about the WR’s future in Kansas City, but until a verdict is reached, he will continue in the first offseason phase of workouts virtually.
“There’s no real participation other than by Zoom, so he’ll participate in that.”
“But other than that, we don’t have anything going on here [at the facilities in Kansas City] that he would be involved with. So, to answer your question, he’s participating on Zoom. And again, just a reminder on this, it’s voluntary, so as we go forward, that’s also another part of it.”
Reid made it clear that his position will be in accordance with what is ruled by law.
“As far as Rashee Rice goes, his situation, I’m leaving that like we’ve done most of these, just for the law enforcement part of it to take place and then we’ll go from there with that. I have had an opportunity to talk to Rashee, and I’m not going to obviously get into that, but that part, that part has been gone through.”
“I want to keep gathering the information from the law enforcement people and we’ll just see where everything goes from there. Let the process take place”, Reid claimed.
The HC finalised Rice’s topic with a message to the player and that he is still waiting for the next steps in the process: “Well, yeah, listen, as long as he’s learned from it, that’s the important part of it.”
“We’ll take it from there and see what takes place, but right now we’re just kind of gathering everything and trying to make sure we have all the bases covered.”
Rice’s role in the team
Rice was the number 55 pick in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Chiefs.
Throughout 2023, the rookie receiver recorded 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns, helping Kansas City win its second straight Super Bowl.
For this upcoming season, having Rice would be important for the team. Even after the acquisition of Hollywood Brown, the receiving unit will still need more reinforcements. Yet another reason for the Chiefs to go after a WR in the Draft.
