Andy Reid makes cryptic comments on Kadarius Toney future after another awful drop in Chiefs win

A nightmare season for Kadarius Toney continued as Kansas City beat New England on Sunday.

After a week of conversation dominated by his offside call penalty, Kadarius Toney really needed a big performance for the Chiefs against the Patriots.

Kansas City won the game 27-17, avoiding a third consecutive loss, but the win featured a circus-act drop from Kadarius Toney towards the end.

Toney juggled a straightforward catch which led to a turnover, with the Pats punching it in to make the score tighter than the game really was.

Toney ended the game with a stat line of just five receiving yards from four targets, and Patrick Mahomes looked furious on the sidelines after the turnover.

Andy Reid speaks on Kadarius Toney

Head coach Andy Reid was asked whether about Kadarius Toney will be taken out of the line up, in his post game press conference.

Reid responded cryptically, sounding downbeat without wanting to be too harsh on the young receiver.

Per PJ Green of Fox4KC on X, Reid simply said, ‘we’ll see’, when asked if Reid would stay as a starter for the Chiefs.

He then added: “I’m not down on Toney, he does some good things. He’s a young guy.”

Reid usually staunchly defends his players, and ‘we’ll see’ is not exactly decisive backing for Toney when it comes to his future in the line up. His patience may be wearing thin.

Time to drop Toney

Taking Toney out of the line-up might be in his own best interests at this point. The receiver is enduring a really tough season, where he has only one Touchdown.

In the last two games, Toney had made crucial errors which have hurt the team. The Chiefs were never going to lose this game to the 3-11 Patriots, but against a stronger opponent, Toney’s drop could have been more costly.

Last week the Chiefs players lined up to defend Toney after the offside blunder, with anger directed at the officials. We will see if they give him the same backing this week.
