A controversy is brewing over an incident which grabbed the headlines during Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.
Travis Kelce is a big name now thanks to his relationship with Taylor Swift. And while this can bring up quirky stories like whether Swift should get a cursory Super Bowl ring, it has also seen the scrutiny pile on the Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
The pressure on Kelce seemed to boil over during the Super Bowl, when he was seen screaming on the sidelines at his coach Andy Reid.
Reid played this down and described it as a case of Kelce’s competitive spirit coming to the fore.
Many took a dim view, especially more casual fans tuning into the Super Bowl once a year, who were surprised to see a player berating his highly respected head coach.

NFL Films ‘buries’ audio
Inside The NFL cover the Super Bowl every year and release a fully immersed view of the game from beginning to end, frequently with sideline audio, to give the viewer the best possible experience.
However, according to the New York Post, the Travis Kelce and Andy Reid incident will not be included in the coverage of Super Bowl 58.
The Post reports that Inside the NFL “did not share the audio of the infamous dustup despite Kelce being mic’d up for the game.”
The report describes the incident as being ‘buried’, and goes onto suggest the Chiefs may have asked for it not to be included.
It explains: “NFL Films is owned by the league, which itself is a collection of the 32 franchises, and there exists a clear understanding that the teams effectively have veto power over what makes it to air via the threat of restricting future access.”
Skip Bayless blasts Chiefs
Never one to shy away from voicing an opinion, Undisputed host Skip Bayless blasted both Travis Kelce and Andy Reid.
He believes Reid should have punished Kelce during the game, and argued that he purposely allowed his authority to be undermined, to win the Super Bowl.
Bayless wrote on X: “Good story in the NY Post by Ryan Glasspiegel indicates the Chiefs managed to keep NFL Films audio of Travis Kelce attacking Andy Reid from airing anywhere. No surprise. Kelce was verbally as well as physically abusive. No punishment. Andy sold his coaching soul for that SBowl.”
Many will be glad Reid took the pragmatic view, and kept his star tight end in the game.
If the 49ers had won, then this incident would have been getting a lot more scrutiny than it did.
