Taylor Swift getting a Super Bowl ring is now a talking point, NFL tight end speaks out

She didn’t feature for the Kansas City Chiefs on the field, but some people believe that Taylor Swift deserves a Super Bowl ring for her ‘efforts’ in 2023.

Every year, the NFL pays for up to 150 Super Bowl rings, with most going to players, coaches and football operations support staff members.

Team owners, though, can designate others to receive the jewellery.

What Swift’s presence did to increase the Chiefs’ female support and the NFL brand

Although she’s never been an official brand ambassador or done marketing for the Chiefs or the league, Taylor Swift’s presence has made both organizations more profitable.

According to Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, their female audience grew “by leaps and bounds” this season thanks to Travis Kelce’s girlfriend.

In addition to that, APEX Marketing Group told Front Office Sports earlier this month that Swift has generated an equivalent brand value of $331.5 million for the Chiefs and the NFL.

A staggering 123.4 million viewers watched Super Bowl LVIII, making it the most-watched American television broadcast since 125-150 million viewers tuned in for the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing.

When the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, 115 million viewers tuned in.

Swift’s presence surely did something to increase the Super Bowl viewing audience this season.

Does Taylor Swift deserve a Super Bowl ring

While most Swifties believe the Grammy Award-winning singer deserves a Super Bowl ring, at least one current player doesn’t think so.

New York Giants tight end Darren Waller gave his take when TMZ Sports asked him about that.

Waller believes those rings should go to others in the organization.

According to him, there should be rings for those who put in the grind behind the scenes of a Super Bowl-winning team because they are “really in the trenches.”

He added, however, that it’s the Chiefs call, “Whatever they want to give her, bro.”

Non-players and staff with championship rings

It would feel strange to give someone who’s not directly involved in the organization a ring.

That being said, Swift wouldn’t be the first who had little or nothing to do with the success of a winning team to get one.

Warren Moon’s pro football career spanned over 20 years in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and NFL.

He captured five Grey Cups during his CFL career but never won a world championship in his illustrious time as a starting quarterback in the NFL.

The 1990 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, two-time passing leader and nine-time Pro Bowl pivot who ended his career with the Chiefs has a Super Bowl ring, though.

When the Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII, Moon, a colour commentator for the franchise at the time, received the coveted bling.

Former Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster Al McCoy reportedly has a World Series ring from their 2001 title.

John Mason, the public address announcer at Detroit Pistons’ home games, apparently has a ring from when the team won an NBA Championship in 2003-04.

Stu Lantz never won an NBA title as a player, but the Lakers broadcaster has worn numerous rings as the team’s colour man.

If Swift gets a ring, she may be the most prominent celebrity with indirect ties to a franchise to receive such an honor.
