Dak Prescott’s future continues to remain unclear and he looks increasingly likely to not receive a deal in the 2024 offseason.
NFL Insider Ian Rapoport said there was a ‘mutual’ understanding between Jerry Jones and Prescott.
The 81-year-old owner said: “We are where we are, locked and loaded for this year.”
An alarming statement suggests there is no movement expected for a Prescott extension.
The time and place for a new deal was before free agency to restructure for cap space but that has passed.
Jerry Jones says they need to ‘win with less’
The ‘all in’ claims have even been replaced by ‘win with less’ by Jones.
Prescott will cost $55 million on the cap which is restricting the movement in free agency.
The Cowboys seem to be developing problems and not finding any solutions.

Resources are limited as of this moment and Mike McCarthy seems to have been hung out to dry.
Moreover, Prescott and McCarthy are entering the final years of their current deals.
Both will be looking for work this time next year in 2025 and Adam Schefter has already proposed two places.
Numerous teams will be ready to pounce on the idea of Prescott being their signal caller.
Well, who would not, he finished second in the MVP standings and threw for the most touchdowns in the NFL.
‘No shortage of suitors’
Schefter appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and spoke about the Prescott situation.
Schefter proclaimed: “Dak to me is a really good quarterback, so, if and when he becomes a free agent next year, there might be a quarterback-needy team.
“Giants, Commanders, who knows, we could go through the list right now. There will be no shortage of suitors as a true unrestricted free agent on the open market.”
The idea of a true rebuild could be on the cards next year in Dallas.
There is an option of the Cowboys offering the 30-year-old a new deal in 2025, but that is up to Prescott whether he accepts.
The only way he would receive a deal is if he managed to win a ring one would assume.
Prescott heading to a rival?
To hear that two of your biggest rivals could be lurking in the shadows for your franchise quarterback, is a fan’s worst nightmare.
Additionally, the Cowboys’ last two franchise QB’s were not projected to have reached the levels they have.
Prescott was a fourth-round pick and Tony Romo was undrafted in 2003.
Finding a generational quarterback is going to be a tough project if that is what the Cowboys will do in 2025.
What we do know is this is a bleak situation and a major offseason distraction that is detrimental.
