The Kansas City Chiefs will take their seat in the war room in two days and will be on high alert as they watch the draft fall.

Brett Veach is set to pick up the phone last in the first round with pick #32.

The team will be eager to see who the predecessing teams will choose, which could determine their choice.

However, the general manager did not rule out a trade into the top-15 if the opportunity came.

Chiefs set to target a wide receiver in the first round to add to their core

Across the board, it is general news that the Chiefs are set to pick a wide receiver or left tackle as their first choice.

In addition, Veach has claimed that the Chiefs believe only 16-18 rookies are first-round graded.

Patrick Mahomes has managed to win two Super Bowls on the spin without a top-tier receiving core.

Yet, one of their best prospects of 2023 has dealt the team a massive blow during the offseason.

Rashee Rice’s incident leaves the Chiefs in a predicament

Rashee Rice is out on bail as the Dallas police investigate further into the multi-vehicle crash case.

The rookie wide receiver was caught driving at 119 mph in a 70 mph zone and inevitably was involved in a dangerous incident.

Although none of the injuries sustained were fatal, lawsuits are set to be filed against the receiver who has taken full responsibility.

Moreover, his football career hangs in the balance as he must wait to find out the court ruling.

Rice could face a prison sentence and if lucky fines/suspensions.

NFL set to issue a multi-game suspension to the wide receiver in 2024

ESPN’s Adam Schefter has revealed the latest update on the NFL punishment issued to Rice.

According to the report, the NFL are preparing to hand the wide receiver a multi-game suspension.

Regardless of the outcome of the judicial battle, Rice will be banned by the NFL for some time.

The duration of the penalty is unclear but this will give the Chiefs further motivation to target a receiver early.

Rice broke multiple franchise rookie records in 2023 after being a second-round pick.

One analyst predicted the 23-year-old to become the Chiefs WR1 in 2024.
