The Dallas Cowboys are starring down the barrel of an offseason that is relying solely on the NFL Draft to turn their misfortunes around.

America’s Team has welcomed just Eric Kendricks as their only offseason acquisition that was not on the 2023 roster.

Jerry Jones has refused to put his hands in his pockets and spend the cash.

However, this is mainly because he has backed himself into an avoidable corner.

Jerry Jones willing to accept Dak Prescott’s $55 million cap hit

Coming into the offseason Jones knew Dak Prescott absorbing $60 million on the cap for 2024.

Prescott now has the second biggest cap hit in the NFL of $55 million.

Houston Texans v Dallas Cowboys

The front office could have agreed to an extension and restructured the deal to free up more cap space.

They have declined this route and the 81-year-old has indicated the quarterback will play out his deal.

Additionally, with CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons on the hunt for extensions, further finances could be chewed up.

‘Cowboys are the biggest gaslighters in the league’

NFL expert Carmen Vitali shared her exasperated opinion on the Up and Adams Show.

In an incensed fashion, she said: “The thing about the Cowboys, this is a monster in their own making.

“They’re the biggest gaslighters… Cowboys are the biggest gaslighters in the league. Don’t tell me you don’t have cap space; you can make cap space. You (Jones) didn’t do anything to keep Dak Prescott around.

“Any normal team says, ‘Oh shoot we can’t get past the hump in the postseason maybe we should surround our quarterback, who is an All-Pro by the way, who gets us through the regular season, with some more talent to help him out in the postseason’.

“What do the Cowboys do? Trade away Tyron Smith, Tyler Biadasz is gone… the only weapon that Dak Prescott has right now is CeeDee Lamb.”

Prescott now faces the reality of playing out his final contract with an unclear future.

Prescott ‘has every incentive’ to test free agency in 2025

In 2025, the 30-year-old would be a free agent and could be on the market to receive a record-setting deal.

The NFL reporter believed Prescott has every reason to test free agency: “Dak has every incentive to hit free agency in 2025 and then pick what team is willing to pay him 60 million dollars.”

Problems are mounting for the Dallas Cowboys and their key stars seem disgruntled about their situations.

Furthermore, the Cowboys are behaving like a deer in headlights, which could be ill-timed with the NFL Draft approaching.
