Knowing that training camp is approaching means that the start of the 2024 season is just around the corner.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ offense is very well defined and full of options.
However, the left tackle position will probably be up for grabs during training camp. That’s because Donovan Smith, last year’s starter, hasn’t re-signed with the franchise and is still available on free agency.
On the other side, the defense remains solid even after losing players who undoubtedly made a difference in the squad.

The Chiefs’ competitors for the LT position
So far, the Kansas City roster has Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia as options to take over the position of protecting Patrick Mahomes’ blind spot. They’ll have to compete in camp to be the starter.
Two young players: while Morris is entering his second year in the NFL, Suamataia is a rookie who has yet to experience the league properly.
The sophomore has already shown himself to be a reliable piece in the four games in which he has started in place of Smith.
However, when it comes to a crucial position that involves protecting the quarterback, perhaps the Chiefs need to think about adding a veteran who can bring the experience and maturity that the unit needs – in 2024 specifically.
Former Green Bay Packers who could be an option
Considering that this year has the potential to be historic for both KC and the NFL, being very well strengthened in all sectors of the field is the No. 1 priority.
There’s a free agent player who could be the fit the Chiefs need for Mahomes to feel comfortable on the side he can’t see.
David Bakhtiari, former Green Bay Packers left tackle, is available on the market.
Yes, he has a complicated injury history, but he’s a veteran who has protected Aaron Rodgers, an elite QB, and knows very well how things work in the game.
When healthy, he puts on a show and proves to be a Hall of Fame player.
Bakhtiari recently spoke to insider Adam Schefter about his health condition, because he had to undergo knee surgery, and the LT’s response was surprising.
“My goal right now is just to make sure that I not only fully recover but I can withstand and play the game that I want to play but also play and be there for a team no matter what,” said on The Adam Schefter Podcast.
Bakhtiari is confident that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank to play in the NFL for a long time to come: “I am your cornerstone guy. Someone that’s not only going to play in September but in December and into February and obviously hopefully for another couple of years.”
Schefter asked him about the possibility of signing with a team in the near future, and which one he’d like it to be.
“I want to play with the next Super Bowl MVP,” noted. “So wherever the hell that’s gonna be, I better be with him.”
He never mentioned a name, but he probably thought of Patrick Mahomes, the star who is never not favourite to win the Super Bowl and the MVP award.
Combining the useful with the pleasant, having the former Packer as an ally for the signal-caller’s blind spot could make all the difference.
