Dallas Cowboys top three priorities for the NFL Draft, Jerry Jones has to get it right

The Dallas Cowboys have set themselves up for a dangerous situation where they must land on all their picks in the NFL Draft.

America’s Team has allowed multiple starters to walk and will turn to cheap rookies to supplement the roster.

Moreover, most positions are an area of concern for Jerry Jones with just two days left.

The offensive and defensive lines must be addressed, with the rushing and receiving cores being problematic.

Jerry Jones could address any position in the first round of the draft

Simply, the Cowboys are going to be unpredictable when on the clock with the 24th pick.

It is impossible to rank which order the Cowboys’ priorities because they have so many.

So, in no particular order here are three key areas Jerry Jones must address before leaving the NFL Draft.

Firstly, it will be white noise to Cowboys fans by now but they desperately need a starting center for 2024. Tyler Biadasz was allowed to freely walk out of The Star and landed in Washington.

NFL Combine

The Cowboys hosted multiple O-linemen during their top-30 visits and America’s Team is strongly fixated on the center Jackson Powers-Johnson. Moreover, the rookie out of Oregon is a versatile player who can play at center and guard, increasing his draft value.

Dallas needs a reliable center who can snap the ball to Dak Prescott and is NFL-equipped to start every game. There is plenty of talent in an O-line class which is the deepest in years.

The Cowboys are desperate for a large interior lineman who can aid the run defense

Secondly, the Cowboys are craving a defensive lineman who can help stop the run. Jones acknowledged this was a top offseason priority for the franchise.

Their starting nose tackle Johnathan Hankins, who started 14 games in 2023, left in free agency for the Seattle Seahawks. Therefore, the Cowboys are desperate for a raw talent with size who can be a lethal asset for the run defense.

One player that the Cowboys did host during their top-30 visits was Byron Murphy II. The rookie out of Texas would be a fan favorite being a local stud. He has all the making to become a destructive nose tackle against any NFL offense. However, the Cowboys would face the challenge of Murphy falling to #24.

Dallas Cowboys are ‘zeroed in on’ local running back says expert

Finally, the Cowboys must draft a running back and they could do so in the third round. According to Cowboys reporter Mike Fisher, the front office is ‘zeroed in on’ drafting fellow Texas student Johnathon Brooks.

Starting rusher in 2023 Tony Pollard also left in free agency and signed a lucrative contract with the Tennessee Titans. Another crucial position needs to be filled to complement Dak Prescott’s passing game.

Ultimately, although these are three positions of desperate need, other roles have to be drafted. The linebacker room needs to be bolstered, with the Cowboys needing a defensive edge rusher and a left tackle.

As the Cowboys do not possess a fourth-round pick, further emphasis must be placed on their first three selections. Dallas will miss a whole round on Saturday, so must get their priority players off the board before that.
