It would be an understatement to say the end of the 2023 NFL season was heart-breaking for Dallas Cowboy fans.
A poll recently came out with the top 10 most heartbroken fan bases from this past season, and to no surprise, the Dallas Cowboys were on that list.
Sportsgeek investigated any angry and sad posts that NFL fans made on X, Instagram and Facebook concerning their team.
They examined the amount of sad and angry posts and the particular dates when there was a surge in those numbers.
Which NFL teams made the top 10
Often, the most frustrated sports fans are those whose team is successful but doesn’t win it all.
Only two non-playoff fan bases in the 2023 NFL season cracked this top 10 list.
At #10, the Chicago Bears had 216,930 upset posts; 18% were sad and 23% were angry.
The day after they beat the Washington Commanders, October 6, we saw a surge of 25,140 upset posts.
The New York Jets were the other non-playoff team to make the list at #7 with 267,400 heart-breaking posts, 11% sad and 21% angry.
Their biggest surge came September 12, the day after Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury, with 26,780 making upset posts that day.
In ninth place are the Pittsburgh Steelers, with 222,330 heartbroken posts, with the biggest surge during Week Five (19,540).
The Green Bay Packers were eighth at 230,150, including 43,030 posts shared by fans on January 21, the day after Anders Carlson missed a potential game-tying field goal in the Divisional Round when they lost to the San Francisco 49ers.
Just ahead of the Jets is the Baltimore Raven fans, posting 296,810, with 67,000 upset posts on January 28 when they lost the AFC Championship to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Dolphins had 30,520 heartbroken posts on January 14 after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs with 298,290 heartbreaking posts overall this season.
Detroit Lion fans were fourth with 315,030 and 51,190 heart-breaking posts during their NFC Championship defeat to the San Francisco 49ers.
Buffalo Bills fans know a thing or two about heartbreak, and 45,400 posted the day after they lost their playoff game to the Chiefs, with 331,930 upset posts overall this season.
The Eagles had 383,230 upset posts in 2023 and 40,730 when they lost to the Buccaneers in the playoffs.

What upset Cowboys fans this season
There were high expectations that the 2023 Dallas Cowboys could contend for a title, and there were understandably many upset fans following their elimination.
America’s Team had more upset fans than anyone this season, mainly after their embarrassing playoff defeat to the Green Bay Packers.
Fans were voicing their displeasure online as the Packers were pummelling Jerry Jones’ team on the field.
34,860 went on social media that day to share their dismay about the Cowboys’ performance.
389,150 heart-breaking posts were made regarding the Cowboys; 15% were sad, and 21% were angry.
Until they lift another Lombardi Trophy, that will likely keep getting higher.
