Travis Kelce has been a diamond of a find in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft but as his age creeps up the question of retirement crops up repeatedly.

The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for their 12th season with Travis Kelce on the roster and he has just completed just as many offseason programs.

The Chiefs tight end is approaching the twilight of his career and has been questioned about retirement on several occasions.

Travis Kelce endured an underperforming season for high his standards

In 2024, the seven-time All-Pro endured one of his least productive seasons in nearly a decade. He recorded under 1,000 yards – snapping his record-setting NFL streak of seven – and also recorded five touchdowns – a tied career low when eliminating his rookie season.

Therefore, this has raised the question of whether, is age creeping up on Travis Kelce or if we are finally seeing a continued slow regression?

Travis Kelce stated on a New Heights podcast that he wanted to stay within the realms of football post-retirement. Moreover, he wanted to become a game-caller when his career was all said and done.

At mandatory minicamp, Kelce has explained that he does not want his workload to change and wants the ‘wear and tear’ that the NFL brings.

Evidently, the future Hall of Famer has not considered a demise in performance and Andy Reid was happy to oblige in his demands.

Travis Kelce issues clear statement about how he wants to retire

In a recent statement, Kelce explained that he wanted to leave the NFL on his own terms and not be forced into a decision that is out of his control.

“If I can go out on my terms and not have something happen to my body, like a big-time injury to where I have to step away, that’s the biggest goal in football to be able to do it on my terms.”

The tight end does not want to endure a career-altering injury that will force him to consider the possibility of retirement.

The Chiefs tight end has been a healthy and consistent talent

Based on his health record, Kelce has been a reliable player who has not been on the wrong end of a length injury forcing him to man the sidelines.

Furthermore, the 34-year-old has seen his legendary brother Jason close the chapter on his NFL career, but Travis is two years his younger.

Travis Kelce has two years remaining on his current deal and was the recipient of a glamorous pay rise to make him the highest-paid tight end in NFL history.

Ultimately, Kelce and the Chiefs Kingdom will want the superstar to go out on his own terms and to receive the send-off he truly deserves.
