Tom Pelissero updates on the Cowboys’ ‘Big 3’ and one of them will be a no-show at OTAs

September is getting a little closer every day. And the Dallas Cowboys have been on the same path since the start of the offseason.

The space on the franchise’s salary cap is limited – that’s one of the reasons given by the front office for the quiet free agency.

Even so, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are waiting to sign long-term contracts with the team.

Dallas clearly doesn’t want to lose their stars, but the clock is ticking and they’re getting increasingly expensive. That’s because other top players in their positions have also signed big extensions.

Tom Pelissero brings some fresh information on the contract situation in Dallas

Insider Tom Pelissero faithfully believes that America’s Team’s purpose of saving and not using salary cap money is purely for strategic reasons of re-signing their main players – Dak Prescott included.

“The Cowboys love Dak Prescott, they love CeeDee Lamb, they love Micah Parsons. And all along when they didn’t really do anything in free agency other than signing linebacker Eric Kendricks, who got cut by the Chargers, and bringing back Zeke Elliott, the thinking was: ‘We need to save the money to pay these three guys’. It’s pretty apparent just based on where they are in their contracts that Dak and CeeDee are gonna be the top priority,” explained.

He made it clear that this doesn’t mean the organisation has no plans for the pass-rusher. “So I’m not saying they don’t want to get something done with Micah, but he’s entering year four. He is eligible for an extension now, but it sounds like Micah also understands that those other ones are a little bit more urgent here.”

The delay in resolving the ‘Big 3’ situation could have consequences.

Here comes the holdout of one of the Cowboys’ greatest players

OTAs are knocking on the door and CeeDee Lamb won’t be there.

Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that the wide receiver will have a holdout during the activities. He also didn’t take part in the offseason workouts, which were voluntary.

Lamb is entering the final year of his contract after the Cowboys picked up his fifth-year option.

Throughout 2023 season, the wideout caught 135 passes for 1,749 yards.
