Kansas City Chiefs superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are expanding their ever-growing business portfolios by venturing into the world of Formula One.

Mahomes and Kelce, along with a number of other sports stars including golfer Rory McIlroy, Liverpool soccer player Trent Alexander-Arnold, World Cup winner Juan Mata and former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, are joining Otro Capital as strategic investors in F1 outfit, BWT Alpine.

It comes just four months after the French car manufacturer announced that Hollywood actors and Wrexham FC owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were part of a €200m (£171m) deal with Otro Capital for a 24% stake in the team.

“I am thrilled to lead an investor group and join forces with Patrick and the team at Otro Capital on this exciting venture with Alpine F1,” said Kelce. “Our shared passion for excellence and innovation forms the cornerstone of this partnership.

“It’s about being able to contribute to a sport that demands precision, teamwork, and relentless pursuit of success. I am looking forward to this new chapter and can’t wait to see what we achieve together.”

Mahomes added: “I’ve always had a passion for all sports. The opportunity to lead an investor group with Travis in Alpine F1 alongside Otro Capital was one I couldn’t pass up.

“It’s an exciting time for the sport and this is an opportunity to bring our shared values to the world stage. I’m looking forward to being a part of its growth.”

The new investors will help “drive global awareness for Alpine F1″

Renault returned to Formula One in 2017 but was rebranded to Alpine in 2021 after struggling to make a significant impact on the sport.

Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon are the two current Alpine drivers, and sit 11th and 12 respectively in the 2023 Driver Standings. Alpine are currently 6th out of ten teams in the Constructor Standings.

Alpine said they hope the latest wave of investment can bolster their chances of being a contender down the line.

The consortium’s ownership of Alpine will not grow despite the new investors but has been done in an effort to “drive global awareness for Alpine F1 and will further complement Otro Capital’s contributions in areas such as media, sponsorship, ticketing, hospitality, commercial rights management, licensing and merchandising” according to Alpine.
