The Dallas Cowboys have not budged on the franchise quarterback’s cap-draining contract and one expert believes he should not settle for less than his market value.

Stephen Jones explained how the Cowboys’ free agency movement has been restricted because of the current cap situation.

Moreover, America’s Team is gearing up to pay Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and possibly Micah Parsons new contracts.

The linebacker is not entering the final year of his contract like Prescott and Lamb but is eligible for a new deal.

Prescott drains the Cowboys’ finances as they look for cheaper alternatives

As it stands, Prescott is set to chew up $55 million in the Cowboys’ cap space.

After being the MVP runner-up assumptions were made that the 30-year-old would receive a fresh deal.

Nonetheless, the Cowboys have shown no interest in discussing numbers with any of their key players.

With the NFL Draft two days away, all eyes are focused on landing crucial hits and then contract discussion could begin.

Jerry Jones’ decision to hold off on new deals has backed the franchise into a corner where key starters have been forced to walk.

Therefore, they now rely upon the draft to source cheaper imperative starters.

Prescott unfazed by the situation and could hit free agency in 2025

Dak Prescott spoke to the media at the Children’s Cancer Fund which he is a proud ambassador of.

He spoke with confidence and did not rule out the idea of hitting free agency in 2025.

The lack of playoff memorabilia haunts the Dallas Cowboys. Their absence from an NFC championship for 29 years plagues the mind of Jerry Jones.

Prescott’s two playoff wins as a starter for eight years make for grim viewing.

However, when discussing the next steps the player and franchise should make on ESPN, Shannon Sharpe was adamant Prescott should settle for no less than market value.

Expert says Prescott should not entertain a cheaper contract

On ESPN, the Hall of Fame tight-end explained: “If I’m Dak Prescott I am not giving the Cowboys a hometown discount because there are too many teams out there that would need Dak Prescott’s services.”

Sharpe says Prescott’s value for other teams should not make him accept a contract that favors the Cowboys.

Ultimately, other teams will be willing to give Prescott the money he wants if the Cowboys do not.

At the charity fund, Prescott claimed that he did not want to become the highest-paid signal-caller in the league.
