‘Sell the team’… Mike Florio slams Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt

The Kansas City Chiefs have reached, perhaps the most important day in the franchise’s history.

In Jackson County, the voting has opened for the tax extension to be granted to the Chiefs.

Moreover, the subsidized tax will aid with the redevelopment of Arrowhead Stadium.

The tax grant will also build the Kansas City Royals and a new baseball stadium.

However, the Chiefs’ urge to receive additional tax funding has come under fire from many residents.

Some residents decline tax extension

Some people believe there should be no reason for the taxpayer to fund a billionaire’s dream.

All options for Arrowhead are on the table, as this vote will dictate the future of the franchise.

Both Chiefs and Royals said they will ‘explore all options’ if the vote does not go in their favor.

Ultimately, this could mean the Chiefs could move out of Missouri as an ‘option’.

The community is at the heart of Chiefs Kingdom and was even described as the ‘Crown Jewel of football’, per Chris Simms.

Nevertheless, if the vote fails the Chiefs could be playing somewhere else come 2031.

In 2031, their lease expires on the public stadium.

Chiefs in similar situation to Raiders

The NFL is no stranger to owners happily moving their stadium if there is financial motivation elsewhere.

The Oakland Raiders were unable to get any investment from the public on their stadium, so picked up the franchise and moved to Las Vegas.

Money talks and Las Vegas were willing to fund the stadium.

Clark Hunt now asks for the public to grant the extension but this has been ridiculed by Mike Florio.

‘Sell the team’

On Pro Football Talk today, Florio hit out at all owners for not being able to fund their stadiums.

In an exasperated fashion, he said: “Sell the team to somebody else who can pay for the stadium and run the team.

“The reality is in today’s NFL, there is no excuse for any owner to not have enough money or a plan to pay for his or her own stadium.

“There is always another community out there that will do whatever it has to do.”

Florio is confident that all owners should not have to ask for public funding.

On the show, Florio and Simms imply there is a strong possibility that the Chiefs may no longer play in Missouri if the vote fails.

It is a big day that can alter the Chiefs’ legacy in Missouri.
