Arrowhead Stadium has been the home of the Kansas City Chiefs since 1972 but face a real chance they could vacate.

Even after the Chiefs have become the first team in 20 years to secure successive rings, this has not been a distraction from the offseason matters.

Clark Hunt’s Chiefs will find out their fate next Tuesday if they are going to leave Arrowhead.

Chiefs seek tax extension

The Chiefs have been seeking a sales-tax extension to fund the redevelopment of their home stadium.

Additionally, the subsidized tax will be used to build a new stadium for the Kansas City Royals.

Chiefs team president Mark Donovan stated publicly they need an extension to the tax funding the redevelopment.

Super Bowl LVII - Kansas City Chiefs v Philadelphia Eagles

The date has been set for April 2nd where the vote will be held to support or reject the idea.

Both the Chiefs and Royals have stated they will ‘explore all options’ if the approval vote fails.

Ultimately, this could mean the Chiefs pick up the franchise and move elsewhere out of Missouri.

As we know this is not uncommon in the NFL world with many owners moving their teams, e.g., the Oakland Raiders transferring to Las Vegas in 2020, becoming the Las Vegas Raiders.

‘The crown jewel of football’

Mike Florio and Chris Simms discussed the approaching vote on Pro Football Talk.

Simms believes it would be wrong to see the Chiefs anywhere but Missouri: “I’ve never been there (Missouri) where I have never been to any breakfast place, any lunch place, any dinner place where it’s not the Chiefs the Chiefs the Chiefs.

“There’s one where I do think they’ll get behind this (the vote). It doesn’t matter where you go there are still kings of that town, it is not a huge city.

“They (Chiefs) are the crown jewel of football right now, the timing is right that way, hopefully, they get it done. I don’t want to see the Chiefs anywhere but Kansas City, Missouri.

Arrowhead is one the most infamous stadiums

Moreover, Arrowhead Stadium is one of the most iconic and historic grounds in football.

Chiefs Kingdom has set multiple noise records throughout the last decade and has some of the most dedicated fans in the country.

It would feel wrong to deprive a fan base of a team that they have seen in the lowest form and supported them to reach the pinnacle of the NFL.

Nonetheless, the vote is what counts. If it fails there is a strong possibility the Chiefs will have to pack up their bags.
