Rico Dowdle sends five-word message to Dallas Cowboys fan who asked about play-off loss

It has not been an easy few days for Dallas Cowboys fans, players or staff.

The worst aspect of losing in the NFL play-offs is the finality of it all. A once promising season filled with hope is over, in an instant.

Mixed along with the crushing disappointment is the emptiness of uncertainty, and Dallas were clearly not prepared for this kind of eventuality, taking time to work out what comes next.

All eyes are on owner Jerry Jones, and some criticism too. He is being urged to clean house and hire new coaching staff – with Bill Belichick’s name doing the rounds.

Pain for Dallas Cowboys players

There has been an understandable silence amongst the Dallas Cowboys roster since the defeat.

The usually highly vocal Micah Parsons has gone silent, and it would probably be wise for the players to stay off social media for a time.

One player who did pop up on X was back-up running back Rico Dowdle, who invited questions, stating: “I got time today .. wassup.”

He responded by answering a litany of non-football questions, including his favorite other sport – basketball, and his favorite video game – Call Of Duty.

But he did respond to one Cowboys fan account which asked, “What is one thing the team could have done better to succeed in the playoffs?”.

Dowdle responded with a five word message, and a sad emoji, summing up his state of mind.

He wrote: “Play to our full potential.”

Clearly there is tangible frustration in the locker room that Dallas did not perform to the standard of a team which recorded 12 regular season wins, and had one of the most feared defenses in the league.

The defense was exposed by quarterback Jordan Love, who helped the Packers put up 48 points in Dallas, with a little help from a Dak Prescott pick six.

The Cowboys are going to have all off-season to reflect on this, but may perhaps have some fresh direction in the coming days.
