It’s been a while since the Dallas Cowboys have had a wide receiver worthy of being a First-team All-Pro.
The year was 2014 when Dez Bryant led the NFL in receiving touchdowns (16) while also catching 88 passes for 1,320 yards.
That was enough for Bryant to be selected as a First-Team All-Pro, the only time the former Oklahoma State receiver earned the honor.
Regardless of what happens in the Cowboys’ regular-season finale against the Washington Commanders, we should see a Dallas receiver receive that distinction in 2023.
A year after being a Second-team All-Pro, CeeDee Lamb has established himself as one of the premiere wide receivers in the NFL this season.
Heading into their final regular-season encounter, Lamb ranks second in receiving yards (1,651), averaging 13.5 yards per catch thus far.
He and Dak Prescott are drawing comparisons to another great Cowboys duo from years past, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin.
Lamb and Dak still need to win a few Super Bowls to be put in that company, but the Cowboys wide receiver deserves First-team All-Pro honors this season.
He made a massive statement against the Lions with a 92-yard touchdown catch on a Saturday night affair in front of an enormous audience, staking his claim for that coveted spot.

The 88 Club
In the victory last Saturday, Lamb eclipsed Michael Irvin’s single-season record for catches (122) and receiving yards (1,651).
Earlier this season he became the first player in NFL history to have at least three games with at least 10 catches and 150 yards receiving.
It’s safe to say he is continuing the high standards that come with wearing #88, a number Irvin also wore during his Cowboys career.
Lamb’s Competition
There are three spots open for wide receivers for the First-team All-Pro.
Tyreek Hill should be a lock for that first spot, leading the league in receiving yards (1,717) and touchdowns (12).
Lamb has made 10 more grabs than Hill this season, though Hill has played one fewer game.
Recency bias, though, probably has Tyreek ahead of Lamb, while Hill also leads the NFL in average yards-per-catch (15.3).
Lamb should be in that number two spot, but a few others could potentially overtake him before the regular season concludes.
LA Rams rookie Puka Nacua is putting together a pretty remarkable campaign for a 22-year-old, with 101 catches for 1,445 yards.
That’s just two fewer yards than A.J. Brown, who’s made 105 catches and is currently third in the NFL for receiving.
Last on the list with perhaps an outside chance at getting a First-team All-Pro selection would be Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The Detroit Lions standout has 1,371 receiving yards, drawing level with Hill for catches at 112.
While Lamb has lost two fumbles, which is more than any of those other names, he should still have the inside track on one of those All-Pro receiving positions.
What puts Lamb over the top is his consistency.
He’s repeatedly put together fantastic statistical performances worthy of being a First-team All-Pro.
