Patrick Mahomes speaks out on what the Kansas City Chiefs players are going to do about Rashee Rice

Rashee Rice is one of the names that has troubled the Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason.

The wide receiver is still facing several criminal allegations stemming from a multi-vehicle car crash in March.

The 24-year-old is entering his second year in the NFL and is already leaving a negative mark on his hitherto short career.

Rice has also reported to the Kansas City facilities and will be fully involved in the OTAs.

Rice will be severely punished by the NFL

The league has not yet made its verdict on the WR’s future official, but it is expected that he will be suspended for at least half of the regular season.

The receiver was chosen in the Chiefs’ 2023 Draft in the midst of a unit that needed an immediate reinforcement. And Rice was the player who held them together last year.

He had 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns. He even broke an NFL rookie record with 26 playoff receptions.

Rice is very deserving of the franchise’s trust on the field, but now he will need to regain the organisation’s respect off it.

Patrick Mahomes is committed to helping his teammate

Patrick Mahomes, during a press conference last Wednesday, mentioned the wide receiver’s situation as a commitment that the whole team needs to embrace in order to help Rice “learn from his mistakes”.

“It’s not just me,” explained. “I think we try to just do whatever we can to teach him how to learn from his mistakes.

“Obviously that (accident) was a big mistake, but you have to learn from it, make sure it doesn’t happen again, and try to do whatever you can to be the best person you can be in society, not only for yourself but for the people around you. And I think he is doing that.”

“But right now, we’re just gonna keep trying to do whatever we can to get him on the right path so that he can be a great football player, obviously, but we want him to be a great person, too.”

The NFL’s ultimatum to Rice remains to be seen.
