One of the ‘toughest men’ in American Football departed the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency and his quarterback made sure to give him a public sendoff.
Nick Allegretti closed the door on his chapter in Kansas after his draft back in 2019.
He was a seventh-round selection and the Chiefs’ last registered pick in the draft.
Nick Allegretti leaves
Who knows, if the guard had landed in rookie free agency he may not have landed at Arrowhead.
However, that is hypothetical as Allegretti was a Chief and has reached the pinnacle of football.
The 27-year-old has won every Super Bowl in the franchise’s history bar the 1969 victory.

Throughout his time as a Chief, Allegretti has predominantly been a second-string lineman.
He has played a supporting role in the Chiefs offense as a backup to All-Pro Joe Thuney.
In the 2023 Super Bowl LVIII playoff run Allegretti’s career would be put into hyperdrive.
Moreover, when Thuney was injured sustaining a pectoral injury against the Bills, all eyes turned to the backup.
Nick Allegretti played through injury
Allegretti played the remaining snaps and protected Patrick Mahomes to victory in Buffalo.
A week later he played every snap in the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens – another victory.
The Illinois native played 79 snaps in the Super Bowl equivalent to the number of snaps in the regular season.
After enduring a UCL injury in the second quarter against the San Francisco 49ers, he powered on.
Despite saying he ‘heard a pop’… he was unfazed.
Ultimately, Allegretti has hit the free agency market and his impressive playoff campaign has proved he is a worthy starter.
He joins the rebuilding program at the Washington Commanders.
Sam Howell was sacked the most times of any quarterback last season (65) and needs protection.
Allegretti is the guy to fulfill the role.
Allgretti says goodbye, Mahomes responds
The former Chiefs guard posted an emotional farewell on X: “Kansas City! From the bottom of my heart, Thank You!
“You will always be a second home to my family and I. For the rest of my life you will be the place I became a Husband, the place I became a Father, and the place I became a 3x SB Champ! Love you KC!”
Patrick Mahomes responded to his post by saying: “One of the best teammates I ever had! Congrats on everything brotha!”
Not only was Allegretti a hero but the perfect teammate.
