The Kansas City Chiefs have said goodbye to one of their most heroic characters in their recent Super Bowl triumph over the San Francisco 49ers.

Three-time Super Bowl champion Nick Allegretti has departed the Chiefs and pursued a starting role with the Washington Commanders.

Allegretti was a second-string offensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs but will be hailed as a hero.

In the AFC Divisional round match-up against the Buffalo Bills, starter Joe Thuney was forced out of the contest.

Allegretti got padded up and stepped out onto the field protecting Patrick Mahomes.

After their victory, it was learned that Thuney would miss the remainder of the playoff campaign.

The now-starting offensive guard played every snap assisting his team in reaching the Super Bowl.

In Super Bowl LVIII, the 27-year-old played 79 snaps, he had only played 79 snaps in the regular season.

A coming together with Joey Bosa led to the guard enduring a UCL tear where he said he ‘heard a pop’.

Nevertheless, this did not faze Allegretti and he carried on with only victory on his mind.

His heroism was rewarded with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

He spent five seasons in the state of Missouri, when he was selected in round seven of the 2019 NFL Draft – what a selection that was.

Allegretti signs for Washington Commanders

However, the chapter in Kansas is now officially closed after hitting the free agency market.

The offensive guard is now destined to become a starter for the aspiring Washington Commanders.

NFL Insider, Tom Pelissero, confirmed that Allegretti was joining the Commanders on a three-year deal worth $16 million with $9.02 million guaranteed.

Pelissero lauded Allegretti as ‘one of the NFL’s toughest men’, in direct reference to him playing the Super Bowl while injured.

The former Chief will be a part of the new rebuild in Washington, spearheaded by the newly appointed head coach Dan Quinn.

However, it is unsure who Allegretti will be protecting at quarterback.

A QB that needs protecting

Sam Howell was the starter last year and was sacked the most times in the NFL (65).

Reports suggest the Commanders could look towards a new QB in the April draft as they hold the second overall pick.

Allegretti will be a key foundation in the newly formed offensive line and everyone in Kansas wishes him nothing but the best.
