Nick Wright names the two wide receivers he’s glad Kansas City Chiefs did not sign

Explosive but cautious at the same time: Kansas City’s performance this offseason reinforces the frantic desire for a third ring.

The 2024 offseason is going as well as possible for the Kansas City Chiefs. Everything seems to be lining up for them to have a great year ahead.

KC has managed to keep their main and best players, they’ve strengthened the receiving depth chart with a big signing and they’re gradually bringing in new options for other positions that need new faces.

Nick Wright, co-host of the First Things First show, rated the Chiefs as the team that has done best in the off-season.

“If there’s a contender for better offseason I’d love to know who they are because obviously they (The Chiefs) had the best offseason.”

General Manager Brett Veach knew that two key defensive players would be free agents in 2024 and yet he didn’t allow any other team to come close to attempting to sign them.

Star Chris Jones has signed a long-term contract worth $95 million, making him the highest-paid defensive lineman in the league – he’s earned it.

Drue Tranquill was re-signed for another three years on a $19 million contract. Although he wasn’t the most hyped free-agent at his position, he was rewarded for his solidity and consistency last season.

Wright also claimed that Veach “is the sharpest GM in the NFL”.

The work he’s doing in Kansas City is to be applauded, even more so this year when they’re obsessed with the three-peat.

Brett Veach will be entering one of the most important seasons of his career

Adding Hollywood Brown to the roster was a very wise decision. Considering the financial package he was given, his arrival makes it even more significant.

It’s going to be an important year for the WR’s career and also for the Chiefs, who have the chance to make history in the NFL.

The co-host confessed that he was happy that the Chiefs didn’t go after certain players.

“I liked that they didn’t sign the four years $92 million for Calvin Ridley”

“I liked that they didn’t sign three for $39 (million) for Gabe Davis.”

Wright spoke about the deal involving Brown and admitted that he had been left with a question mark before KC made who they would be keeping on the team official.

“They addressed it (Browns’ deal) with the most financially prudent move imaginable and now they have the ability to come to the Draft to do whatever they want.”

“Maybe I had a little voice in the back of my head that was ‘man, I know how badly they want the three-peat. Are they going to go against their own principles and overpay?’ You know what I mean, for short term production, and they didn’t.”

At running back, left tackle and defensive end, the Chiefs need to look for new options to fill out the squad. Veach should have plans in place for the upcoming Draft.
