NFC contender could have lowered Dak Prescott’s value with new quarterback extension

Dak Prescott has been fishing for a contract extension in the NFL offseason but one deal could change his market value.

The 30-year-old entered the offseason hoping and probably expecting his second contract extension in Dallas.

Jerry Jones has implied that he is prepared to let the franchise quarterback play out the remainder of his contract.

Prescott is searching for a blockbuster deal with other teammates

Whispers had emerged that Prescott could be made the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.

However, the chances of that occurring are diminishing with every passing day.

America’s Team has three of their cornerstone players searching for new deals.

NFC Wild Card Playoffs - Green Bay Packers v Dallas Cowboys

CeeDee Lamb is expected to be offered a new deal during the offseason but could hold out of training to force the issue.

Micah Parsons is eligible for a new deal and talk of becoming the highest-paid defender of all time will make him more enthusiastic.

Pockets of the Cowboys fan base have expressed a willingness to move on from the quarterback whose playoff record speaks volumes (2-5).

Nonetheless, Prescott is looking to be paid at top-of-the-market and the Cowboys are hesitant to offer that.

But could one reported deal in the NFC force Prescott to change his demands?

One NFC extension could force Prescott to lower his demands

Jarred Goff of the Detroit Lions is expected to be rewarded with a bumper new deal of $45-50 million annually.

Like Prescott, Goff is entering the final year of his deal and is in line to receive a deserved extension per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

If rumors were true about Prescott potentially seeking as high as $60 million annually, has Goff’s deal changed that figure?

The Lions QB would be earning between $10-$15 million less than what the Dallas QB was searching for.

So, should Prescott realistically be asking for much less?

Jared Goff has greater postseason success than Prescott

Both signal-callers have been to three Pro Bowls but Prescott has the All-Pro status.

The two players make an excellent comparison because they were both drafted in the 2016 QB class.

Goff has a far superior playoff record of .500 (4-4) when compared to Prescott’s 2-5 postseason success.

Additionally, the 2016 number-one pick has reached two NFC Championships and a Super Bowl.

He came up short against the G.O.A.T Tom Brady when on the Los Angeles Rams roster.

Dak Prescott’s lack of postseason success has proved a stumbling block in getting a new deal, something Goff has.

The playoffs are where players prove their worth and Jerry Jones has not seen it to warrant an extension.

If the Louisiana native lowered his financial expectations the 81-year-old owner would feel more inclined to show him the extension.
