Miami Dolphins count cost of Tyreek Hill deal as two key starters leave, Chiefs win again

The Miami Dolphins may now be paying the price for the ‘all in’ movement they made for Tyreek Hill back in 2022.

Tyreek ‘The Cheetah’ Hill was made the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL back in 2022.

Two years ago, the Dolphins and Chiefs finalized a trade that saw the fastest wide receiver in the league move to the Sunshine State.

Counting the cost of Tyreek Hill’s mega trade

Hill was looking for a mega contract and the Chiefs could not accommodate their star’s needs.

Therefore, a trade was completed and Hill signed a deal worth $120 million over four years.

In a recent interview with Ryan Clark, he stated the spotlight focused too much on Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

The 30-year-old was looking to be a ‘brand’ after his football career was over.

This was a seismic move in 2022 and the Dolphins were taking big steps to secure a Super Bowl.

However, the dream has not planned out like the Dolphins envisioned.

In addition, Hill now swallows up a large portion of the Dolphins’ cap space.

When the negotiation table opened up for all the free agents on Monday morning; the Dolphins were in trouble.

They unflatteringly boasted the worst cap space availability in the entire NFL.

At $23 million over the NFL’s regulation-allowed cap space, the hit Hill has on the funding is evident.

As a result, the Dolphins executives have had to make moves to navigate below the cap maximum.

Two crucial players, on offense and defense, have been unable to sign new deals in Miami.

Robert Hunt experienced the delights of free agency and secured a huge five-year deal worth a staggering $100 million.

Defensive lineman Christian Wilkins landed in Sin City on the Las Vegas roster – a $110 deal over four years.

Due to the Dolphins’ finances being focused towards one player, they are forced to sanction deals that are harming the team.

It makes you think if the Chiefs paid Tyreek Hill when he was searching for top-dollar, would they have said goodbye to Chris Jones?

Ultimately, having the two highest-paid players in said positions is not financially viable.

That was what Hill was searching for in 2022.

Hill’s trade has presented the opportunity for Kansas to pay Jones handsomely.

If Hill was still present then it may have been the end of Jones.
