Matt Araiza signs with Kansas City Chiefs, agents release statement on highly rated punter

The Kansas City Chiefs have a new player on their roster, punter Matt Araiza.

Matt Araiza was dubbed the ‘Punt God’ after an impressive college career with San Diego State Aztecs. He was then drafted by the Buffalo Bills.

However, a serious off-field allegation was made against him, and he ended up being cut by the Bills.

Now with no legal action hanging over him, with no charges brought, Araiza is free to restart his NFL career, and is doing so with the Super Bowl champions.

ESPN report Matt Araiza has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, with current punter Tommy Townsend set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Matt Araiza signs for Kansas City

JL Sports, the agency run by Joe Linta posted on X to confirm the news.

The statement read: “We are proud to announce that our client @matt_araiza has signed with the @Chiefs . We are grateful to Brett Veach, coach Reid and the @Chiefs organization for giving Matt this opportunity.

“Matt has been to hell and back in the last 18 months. He has handled himself with grace and humility that is truly inspiring. Matt can now move forward knowing that this ordeal is behind him. He is thrilled to move forward as a part of the #ChiefsKingdom.”

A statement released on X on behalf of Araiza read: “I am proud and honored to sign a contract with the @Chiefs. I am thrilled to be able to continue my NFL career.

“I want to thank my family, who have been my rock and my many friends who have been unwavering in their support.”

Kansas City Chiefs special teams unit gets stronger

Nobody doubts the talent Matt Araiza has. He became known in college for his long, accurate punts, which placed his team in an advantageous position.

He could be another important weapon to make the Super Bowl champions even stronger in 2024.

Kansas City already have one of the best kickers in football, Harrison Butker, and the special teams coaches will love to have a player of Araiza’s talent to work with too.

The Chiefs will have done their due diligence on Araiza’s situation before signing him, and Andy Reid will have signed off on it. He is free to continue his career, or more aptly, finally get it started.
