LeSean McCoy comments on what will happen to Dak Prescott if he leaves the Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott is one season away from potentially leaving the team he’s been with for eight years.

After the Dallas Cowboys announced that the franchise had reached a ‘mutual agreement’ with their starting quarterback Dak Prescott about taking a break from discussing his contract extension, the QB’s future is uncertain. He’ll need to show with wins that he deserves to stay.

The organisational scenario of the Cowboys as a whole is a little strange due to a performance in the off-season that shows the complete opposite of what the owner has been harping on about.

There are still players in the starting line-up who need and should be paid because they’ve shown they deserve it, and Prescott is still a bottleneck that the team is putting off.

Dak Prescott’s dilemma

On past Tuesday’s edition of the Speak show, the discussion was whether 2024 will be Prescott’s last year defending America’s Team.

Former Chiefs wide receiver LeSean McCoy has long been outspoken about Dak’s performances and continues to stand by his argument.

“The regular season can sign him up. Post he’s gonna lose, that’s what he does. If he can take this team to the NFC Championship game, then we can be talking about an extension, but he’s not gonna give you that, and there’s no reason why I would be paying a quarterback all this money to give me the same results.”

“You go out there and get you a young quarterback to take you to the regular season and give it the posty and don’t win and you got all these other players to pay. When you talk about Micah Parsons, we talk about Cee Dee Lamb, Zack Martin, these guys want their money.”

He faithfully believes that the fact that you play for the Cowboys changes the way others look at you.

“I will say this: when Dak Prescott leaves the Cowboys, we will not be talking about him every other week.”

“He’ll play like every other quarterback that is just good, but when you play for the star, they make you bigger than you really are. We’ll see that coming real soon.”

You can’t put Dallas as a contender

Joy Taylor, co-host of the show, also agrees with Shady, but trusts that the upcoming season, as much as it may seem like more of the same, could end up saying something else to Jerry Jones – and that Prescott may, in fact, extend his contract with the franchise.

“He’s gonna be great during the regular season. He’s gonna put up incredible numbers, they’re gonna win the division or be competing for the division. They’re gonna be in the postseason and then they’re gonna disappoint – happens every single year.”

“So if that changes, then I think my answer will change because if Dak Prescott can get the Cowboys over that hump, which really means just getting to the NFC championship game.”

Taylor said that the franchise is doomed to repeat the failure of every season.

“I do think it depends on how the season ends, but it’s almost scientific Cowboys at this point. You know what the cycle is, you know what they have. I don’t know how they could have been better than they were at home last year. None of it mattered. It still ended up the exact same way.”

“I’m not even talking about the Super Bowl because there’s no need for us to associate the Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys at this point. So get to the NFC championship game. If he can do that, not only do I think he should stay regardless of what the market is, because nothing is gonna be better than him winning like that in Dallas. But I think Dallas should obviously keep him because then he would have done more.”

“But at this point, while I think Dak Prescott is better than a lot of quarterbacks in the NFL, when you’re talking about those numbers, you have to pay… Are you actually paying for regular season performances? There’s cheaper quarterbacks than that.”
