Kansas City Chiefs have path to sign DK Metcalf, explains former NFL scout

Kansas City is still going to bring in seven new young players to the squad, but does it have room for one more veteran receiver?

The Kansas City Chiefs are gradually strengthening their group of wide receivers for the 2024 season.

Bringing in Hollywood Brown has boosted their spirits and given them more strength and determination to go for the three-peat. In addition, Chris Jones’ giant renewal showed that the defense will continue to have its top leader for a long time.

However, when it comes to receivers, Kansas City needs to be as robust as possible. This means that general manager Brett Veach must make some picks in the Draft to protect this offensive unit and develop players with the team’s long-term future in mind.

Trading L’Jarius Sneed has significantly increased the space in the salary cap. And free-agency isn’t over yet, so it might still be time for the Chiefs to think about adding at least one more good deep target for Patrick Mahomes – preferably a young player.

With more than $27 million in cap and another pick for this year’s Draft, KC’s latest big move, although painful, was important for the team that wants to be as close to perfect as possible to make history in the NFL.

The veteran receiver who would power Mahomes’ offense

On Tuesday’s episode of 3 & Out, John Middlekauff responded to listeners’ questions about a possible trade involving DK Metcalf. There are no rumors that the Chiefs are going after him, but the podcast host thinks the WR would fit perfectly in Kansas City.

“Do I think they (Chiefs) would trade pick 32 for DK? I wonder if they think about it.”

Former NFL scout Middlekauff also made a point of talking about the track record of players that coach Andy Reid sympathizes with and turns into big weapons.

“I know the way Andy thinks, he likes sweet players, right? Let me think about some of the guys from the last 15 years that he’s used a lot. From Deshaun to Maclin, to Shady, to what he did with Jamal Charles, drafting Tyreek and obviously Kelce.”

“I would imagine he (Andy Reid) likes DK Metcalf, and think about DK with Patrick Mahomes.”

During his five seasons in the league, Metcalf has played 82 games, tallied 372 catches for 5,332 yards and 43 touchdowns.

Should the 26-year-old WR become a possible target, the Chiefs would have to give up their first-round pick.

For now, DK Metcalf in KC is just a “what if?”.
