Andy Reid and his team of coaches have been able to get an up-close perspective of the Chiefs’ latest draft picks in the rookie minicamp which concluded yesterday.

The rookie of drafted and undrafted status converged on the training field and participated in numerous practice drills. In addition, the 3-day training regime has opened the newbies’ eyes to the expectations and lifestyle that they are expected to follow.

Although the drills were without padding, which is why it was non-contact, the players still got to demonstrate their abilities to eager on-lookers.

Hunter Nourzad has been active during the Chiefs’ latest rookie minicamp showing

Day 3 draftee, Hunter Nourzad, was one of the players who was looking to make a statement at the minicamp.

Moreover, the rookie out of Penn State is hopeful of earning a spot on the Chiefs roster and could be expected to be a rotational piece.

The 23-year-old has been a versatile offensive lineman throughout his college career, playing left guard, right tackle, and center.

He finished college as the starting center at Penn State and will serve as useful depth for All-Pro Creed Humphrey.

The Chiefs rookie offensive lineman has compared his game to Trent Williams

Furthermore, the rookie has modeled his game around one of the Chiefs’ latest Super Bowl victims, Trent Williams.

During an interview with the NFL Draft Diamonds’ owner Damond Talbot, Nourzad was asked about who he would compare himself to in the NFL.

“I think that Trent Williams’ play in the NFL translates to my play in the Ivy League,” he said in response.

“He has finesse and discipline in the passing game, can drive a down lineman with power, but also prides himself on being able to get in the open field on screens, being an athlete, and keeping up with the receiver or back.”

The Chiefs’ hybrid O-Lineman has stated that he believes he has a similar gameplan to 11-time Pro Bowler of the San Francisco 49ers Trent Williams.

Williams is one of the most athletic players in the NFL at his veteran age

Williams is one of the most athletic linemen still in the league at 35 years old. He has the raw power to dominate the opposing pass rusher and can manipulate the movement of defenders to open up gaps for his running backs.

Additionally, his true agility is on display when he sweeps around on screenplays to block linebackers and defensive backs.

Screenplays could be where the Chiefs look to utilize Nourzad, as his reps will be monitored and nurtured in his rookie year.

If the rookie can reach the heights that Trent Williams has then he would go down as the biggest draft steal in 2024.

However, the aspiring rookie will have his work cut out if he is to reach even half the status of Williams.

The four-time All-Pro is still lively as he approaches the tail end of his illustrious career, with his 14 years in the NFL shared between the Washington Commanders and the 49ers.
