Jason and Travis Kelce agree over NFL Taylor Swift coverage – mother Donna has a different view

Since Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce began playing together, football fans have marvelled at the magic those two have produced.

I will sound like a broken record by saying they are simply magical together, and every week, they seem to put on a show.

Speaking of show stoppers, there’s no denying Taylor Swift fits that category to a T, no pun intended, with 12 Grammy Awards and an image that has reached global proportions.

Her appearance at Chiefs home games has indeed grown what was already a big money maker in the NFL into an even bigger market, attracting many non-football fans to the sport.

There’s no denying the Chiefs are the team to watch across the board in the NFL at the moment, and much of the attention is centred around Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift.

By now, everyone assumes the two of them are dating, though neither has confirmed the speculation.

Red Carpet Treatment

With a recent Saturday Night Live (SNL) appearance and his numerous commercials and other TV spots, Travis Kelce’s image has shot through the roof thanks to Taylor Swift.

Travis’ brother Jason, a Pro Bowl offensive lineman and former Super Bowl champion with the Philadelphia Eagles, recently shared his thoughts on the celebrity treatment given to the likes of Taylor Swift.

On the brothers’ podcast “New Heights”, Jason asked Travis his honest opinion of how the league treats celebrities, to which the Chiefs tight end responded, “It brings a little bit more to the atmosphere, brings a little bit more to what you’re watching.”

Jason responded by saying, “They’re overdoing it,” Travis agreed, adding: “They’re overdoing it a little bit, especially with my situation.”

“I think they’re just trying to have fun with it,” he added.

Mother Donna Kelce has a different take, though, telling Today.com, “Why wouldn’t they capitalize on it?” she said. “It’s like they’re laughing all the way to the bank. … So, I don’t think it’s too much. But I know they do. It’s their lives.”

The NFL, meanwhile, has changed their social media featured images and switched their bios to include references to Taylor Swift songs, yet another example of the Swift effect.

In a statement, the league said: “The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.”

Celebrities getting five-star treatment is not necessarily something new, though; in fact, it is something that we’ve seen for decades.

When the Los Angeles Lakers brought showtime and took the NBA to new heights, Jerry Buss was a big part of that, and ever since, we see celebrity sightings from Jack Nicholson and more frequent visitors to the Staples Centre.

On Broadway, there’s Spike Lee at Madison Square Garden all the time for the Knicks game, and now, in Major League Soccer, we have Messi Mania attracting celebrities of all sorts to Inter Miami games.

Swift may be the most well-known transformed football fan the NFL has seen, but it’s not as if the Swift/Kelce phenomenon is something new.
