Patrick Mahomes rose above the freezing temperatures to lead Kansas City to a Wildcard Weekend win over the Miami Dolphins.
The Super Bowl winning quarterback took his team into the divisional round, with a lot of help from rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice.
Patrick Mahomes threw for 262 yards, which was enough, with the Chiefs defense shutting down an insipid Miami team, who predictably froze in the cold.
There was one unusual situation for Mahomes to deal with, after his helmet cracked upon impact in the third quarter after he collided with Dolphins safety DeShon Elliott, with the cold weather blamed.

Mahomes helmet cracks
The play-off game was delayed while Chiefs staff sourced a new helmet for Mahomes, but unfortunately for the quarterback, it just wasn’t the same.
Speaking after the play-off win, Mahomes told the Peacock broadcast he was not pleased with the conditions of the replacement helmet.
Mahomes said: “I was very unhappy because my helmet was warm, and it cracked. Its so cold out here. #
“I put the other helmet on and it did not fit at all. It had been sitting in the cold all day long.
“So I was a little upset about that. We have got to fix that.”
Hopefully for the Chiefs, it won’t be as cold as this again. The conditions were in the minus temperatures, with attending supporters advised to keep their faces covered.
Confidence building in Kansas City
This was a difficult play-off game in unique conditions, and the Chiefs made it look simple. This is what happens when a team has post-season experience and a winning mentality, when it matters.
Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have been waiting for the play-offs all season. This is where their season will be judged.
Making this game against the Dolphins look easy was a big result, and has done wonders for the team’s confidence. There is some belief building that this team can put a run together, whichever helmet Mahomes is wearing.
