‘I can only imagine’… ESPN expert warns Dallas Cowboys star is pretty irreplaceable

The Cowboys fans are eagerly awaiting any updates on the Dak Prescott contract situation.

News surfaced over the weekend regarding a change to the inevitable cap hit for the 2024 season.

The Dallas Cowboys’ front office has converted the quarterback’s $5 million roster bonus to a signing bonus.

As a result, this will free up more cap space but only reduce his cap hit to $55.455 million per ESPN’s Field Yates.

Additionally, Jerry Jones has added two more void years to Prescott’s lucrative deal.

The Cowboys making progress with Prescott

This does show that the Cowboys are talking with the signal caller and his agent Todd France.

Stephen Jones has implied at the NFL Combine that the intention is for Prescott to receive a new extension.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old has come out and said he is ‘confident’ a deal will be reached.

However, the lack of progress has been alarming for many reporters.

America’s Team could let Prescott play out the rest of his contract and be at risk of free agency next year.

Nevertheless, there is still time for Jerry Jones to agree to a deal with his franchise QB.

The NFL touchdown leader has produced his best season after eight years in Dallas.

There would be many suitors who would snap their hands off to have Dak Prescott as their starting quarterback.

No options to improve the QB

The Cowboys could be silly to not extend Prescott, despite his lack of postseason success.

Well, that is certainly the viewpoint from ESPN’s Mina Kimes, she said: “If Dak Prescott had been a free agent this offseason, $50 million dollars a year, easily, if he is a free agent next year I can only imagine what he were to get.

“From Dallas’ perspective I will say this, the likelihood that they would move on from Dak Prescott and improve at the quarterback position is very low.”

There are next to no quarterbacks currently on the market who would improve the Cowboys quarterback situation.

Dak flying high after 2023

Prescott has produced a season worthy of finishing second in the MVP race and is capable of replicating that.

Colin Cowherd pointed out that Prescott is a much better player with an established running game completing him.

Jerry Jones should probably have extended Prescott and used free agency to pay for a commanding running back.

However, they did not do that and could pay the price further down the line.
