Former Cowboys star Marcus Spears thinks Sunday’s clash with the 49ers is a ‘must-win’ game that will have huge ‘psychological’ implications for the rest of the season.
The Dallas Cowboys visit the San Francisco 49ers – arguably the best team in the NFL right now – in a huge game on Sunday night. The 49ers are currently undefeated and have eliminated the Cowboys from the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

Week 5 clash with 49ers provides opportunity for statement win
The most recent of those losses came in their divisional-round clash last season, with the 49ers coming away with a 19-12 win. Both teams have put in dominant displays so far this season but for Dallas this is the first true test of their mettle.
Dallas’ defense has been one of the best in the NFL this season, but Kyle Shanahan has a bunch of offensive weapons in the form of Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Nick Bosa among others.
A win for the Cowboys would be a statement victory and prove to the doubters that they can beat the big boys. A loss would affirm what the naysayers think they already know about the Cowboys – that they falter when it matters most.

Marcus Spears thinks it’s a ‘must-win’ game for Cowboys
On Wednesday’s Get Up, former Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears said the Cowboy’s ‘psyche’ and ‘mindset’ for the rest of the season was at stake against the 49ers.
“All of the conversations switch after the play the San Francisco 49ers,” Swagu said.
“This is the team [the 49ers], this is the giants standing in their way.”
He added that he thinks it’s a ‘must-win’ for Dallas, and that a victory could give them the psychological edge to move forward with the rest of the season with the belief they can go the distance.
Jerry Jones thinks the Super Bowl runs through the 49ers
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones also echoed Spears’ statement. He thinks the game against the 49ers will provide a measuring stick as to where his team is currently at.
Speaking on “Shan & RJ” on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jones called the 49ers the ‘most likely team to go win the Super Bowl.’
“They are, right now, probably the most likely team to go win the Super Bowl, but in order for them to get there, they have to go by us, hopefully two times if that’s the way it falls in the playoffs and we’re in the playoffs, of course,” he said.
“But the bottom line is you’re playing the best, you don’t need the game to tell you you’re playing the best, but you need the game to show you how you stack up against the best.”
He also said that he likes his defense and that “frankly this is the best I’ve felt about our offense this year.”
We’ll find out just how good they are this Sunday.
