The Kansas City Chiefs are predicted to address one specific need on their offensive line in the draft but did miss out on a free agent who could have helped.

On Thursday, Brett Veach will debate with Andy Reid about who the Chiefs will sign in the first round.

Left tackle and wide receiver are the two positions that circulate in the ‘must-have’ conversations for the Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes’ blindside looks vulnerable and will need fixing in the NFL Draft.

Wanya Morris set to start at left tackle after Donovan Smith leaves the Chiefs

Starting left tackle Donovan Smith landed in free agency and the responsibility has been shifted to Wanya Morris.

The rookie started just four games in 2023 and did not impress as expected.

Therefore, the Chiefs are predicted to add rival competition at left tackle with a draftee.

Chris Simms has stated that the Chiefs cannot leave the NFL Draft without addressing the position.

This has placed further emphasis on drafting an offensive tackle as early as possible.

However, the front office did turn to free agency in the hope of bolstering their roster.

Chiefs host left tackle Andre Dillard days before signing for the Packers

Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Kansas City Chiefs hosted left tackle free agent Andre Dillard.

The 28-year-old hit the open market after one season with the Tennessee Titans in 2023.

Before that, he played four seasons on his rookie deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dillard battled various injuries and COVID-19 and the Eagles did not activate his fifth-year extension.

Despite this, the fifth-year player decided to sign with the Green Bay Packers instead.

The Packers are looking to contend with the Detroit Lions for the NFC North and are seen as dark horses for the Super Bowl.

Chief now will look at the NFL Draft for their left tackle who could be a starter to protect Patrick Mahomes.

Ultimately, the offensive line class of 2024 runs very deep, so the Chiefs, with the drafting intelligence of Veach, should have no problem finalizing Smith’s successor.
