Dallas Cowboys quarterback option could be traded to Minnesota Vikings, says Rich Eisen

The Dallas Cowboys could end up receiving an offer for one of the team’s quarterbacks, according to the latest speculation.

The NFL Combine is an event for teams to witness the athleticism of would-be draft prospects and hold interviews.

It is also unofficially a get-together for team executives, scouts, and media, ripe with gossip.

And unsurprisingly, some of the gossip involves the most talked about team in the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys.

Trey Lance could leave

NFL Media’s Rich Eisen says one of the pieces of gossip he has heard, involves the Minnesota Vikings making a place for Dallas third-choice Trey Lance.

The Cowboys acquired Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers last off-season, after he lost his starting gig to Brock Purdy.

Lance did not play a snap for the Cowboys and remains a back-up, but a young one with high, untapped potential.

Minnesota are considering a move for a new quarterback, with Kirk Cousins set to explore his options in free agency.

Speaking to The Rich Eisen Show, the broadcaster said: “The Cowboys kept him on his roster long enough for him to get a bonus. So they’re paying the money to keep him. They got him for a five [correction – fourth], I’m just wondering if if the Vikings flip them a three, a Friday night pick? Do they go ahead and do that?

“Trey Lance. I’m just saying that is a possibility out there. The kid’s from the state as we all know. And that might be an answer, and see what he’s got. And go to work and say, ‘how does Justin Jefferson sound to you?’ Because they’re gonna give him the bag. That’s for sure.

“So that’s number five on my top five rumours that I heard at the Combine.”

Flipping Lance for a third round pick would be tempting

If Dallas were able to get a third round pick back for Trey Lance, without him contributing to the team, it would be a good deal for them, having given up a fourth rounder to get him on board.

Cooper Rush is still under contract for another year, giving the Cowboys a back-up for Dak Prescott at the position.

The Cowboys believe Lance is a talented prospect, but he’s a totally unproven one, and every player has a price.

If the Vikings are interested in making him their starter, they will have to give something up. The player would want to explore that opportunity too, and perhaps, there is a deal to be done.
